Every Wednesday, I look forward to reading the soccer page in the Merc. Today, there was nothing, nada. Two pages about Bonds, two more pages on the Sharks (Congratulations to both by the way!), and the rest was garbage. So, I called the Mercury desk and got a hold of a guy named Steve, his title is " Readers Rep". Not to my surprise he didn't know what happened. Next, I asked him to put me through to Dylan Hernandez. So, I asked him the same question. Now guys, this is what gets me upset. He writes soccer articles for this paper and he had no clue that his page was not in today's paper. I feel that I was calling Comcast, nobody has a clue. So, instead of posting unimportant posts on these boards (too many to mention), pick up the phone, call this paper and give them hell. Anything else you can do, do it. We need to raise hell. Go Quakes!
That's quite a surprise. I can't believe Dylan had no clue either!! They have had soccer in Wednesday's paper for quite awhile now!! Did the Quakes not feed them any information this week? I would say it's partially their fault also for assuming the Merc will print soccer news every week. Hopefully it's a wake up call for the Quakes.
You two seem to be at odds in what you are saying. What I hear from angra is that Dylan Hernandez wrote the article but the paper did not publish it. Is that correct? Is so it is indeed strange. If he didn't write any article then there would be no article appearing. Simple.
I would be willing to bet that it got kicked out of the paper when Barry Bonds hit 661. If he hadn't hit 661, there wouldn't have been two pages on Bonds/Giants. Viola, soccer page! I would imagine it might be in Thursday's paper.
Funny, Dylan's got a Quakes-related article on the Merc's website, dateline is Wed., April 14. Injury not weighing on Ching --San Jose Mercury News I can't tell you guys of it's in the print edition (obviously, due to my location and distance from the Bay Area), but maybe this is a web special, or something like that.
You may be right. Below are links to two articles written by Dylan in the on-line version of the Merc. Maybe you will see these articles appearing in tomorrow's print version. Injury not weighing on Ching MLS hopes rest with Fire in Champions Cup tourney
I'm sure that Ringo's interpretation is the right one. Too much Barry Bonds stuff and they shoved the soccer article to somewhere else. I don't know when the day will come when "The Beautiful Game" doesn't constantly get to suck hind teat.
angra, I apologize for the confusion. Since I had just walked into the office and not yet seen the paper when you called, I had no idea what you were talking about. As someone here suggested, a lot of stuff had to be held a day to accomodate the Bonds stories. The soccer notes will run tomorrow. Dylan Hernandez
Dylan, thanks for continuing to write such great articles about the Quakes (not to mention the one you wrote about my lacrosse team last week...)
Dylan, I enjoy your soccer articles in the Mercury. You obviously understand the game and as a result the quality of the coverage of the sport in the Merc has risen dramatically since you started. I also wanted to thank you for your investigative journalism regarding the Club America story. If you hadn't taken the initiative, we fans would be completely in the dark. That's what a good journalist does and I appreciate it. Keep up the good work.
What we need is some kind of scandal for attention, like Becks and Posh and the rumors that he is fooling around with a couple of other women. It would fill other parts of the paper with Quakes news. How about pairing Donovan with some older, famous woman in an affair as her "boy-toy"? A couple of months, ago, there was some stuff about Demi Moore and some guy that was 20 years younger than her. Something like that.
Landon needs to take one for the team and have an affair with Gavin Newsome's (hot/scary: choose one) wife.
Choose? There's no choice there: she's H-O-T. Politics do not enter into the bedroom, unless it's a long-term thang.
The question, of course, is whether she is famous enough. Even if not, the mayor's wife caught skinny-dipping with Landon in the Palace of Fine Arts fountain (do they have one?) might be just the kind of sensation we need.
Yeah, she's hot if you like a chick with a gigantic mouth and weird hair, and teeth that have been unnaturally whitened and all that.
The "hot" version--she's now on Court TV/CNN/name news outlet giving Greta Van Susteren a run for her money. The "geek" version--during the Whipple Dog Mauling Trial. http://www.gavinnewsom.com/kimberly.html Looks like an academic/intellectual version of Vero. We just might need that to create a buzz for our hometown heroes. Butters, I mean, Landon has to take one for the team. There is a fountain at the Palace of Fine Arts, but it's more of a backdrop if anything... (and yes, she's Hispanic/Irish!) Cheers!
Moving off topic here, but FYI Looks like Vero if she was a litigator/brainiac. (oh yes, she used to be a lingerie model while working her way through USF Law school.) Cheers!
Re: Moving off topic here, but FYI Omigod that's a lot of collagen. I'd abandon the fountain idea--she may deflate if she gets wet.
