Zzzzzzzzzzz. Not gonna happen because it's the kind of situation that MLS has been trying to avoid. Whatever profits the quakes make, dopey York would suck away. it's a complete non-starter.
I think Wolff might like some creativity after working with Kassing. But this stadium-sharing idea with the 49ers isn't realistic. Perhaps the 49ers interest will be good to have in negotiations with San Jose, however.
I'm sure MLS would love this idea.... But I suppose you could go one better than Wolff's Oakland Coliseum tarps and have a roof come out in-between the lower and upper bowls or something. But the stadium is supposed to hold 66K or so? If the lower bowl was 30-something thousand capacity that would still be way over Wolff's desired low 20's. I know! 20k permanent seats and 45k bleachers!
This part was interesting: Opens up the possibility of yet another site . . . possibly they could tear down much of Candlestick, yet leave enough of it up for an SSS. OK, I'm just thinking out loud here.
This is idiotic, but I think that Wolff is going to use it to pressure SJ to play ball. If the Quakes were tenants in someone else's stadium, that stadium would have to give the Quakes low enough rent, and a big enough slice of the revenue that the Quakes would be profitable with an average attendance of 12k or so. So a 68.5K stadium is not going to work for that. Still, if it prods Santa Clara County and or the City of San Jose to make nice with him, I'm all for it. Never say "never", but the Quakes playing in that kind of a ballpark would be embarrassing. Nothing like a TV shot of 50,000 empty seats. Plus, if in fact there was some disagreement between SJSU and Wolff due to the 23K vs. 30K stadium capacity, this has to be a total non-starter.
I'll say never. The Wolff option stipulates we MUST play in a SSS or something very close to one (ie: the shared SJSU stadium). No SSS not team. So the Niners thing is nothing more then Jed York making uneducated statements, not unusual for a member of that family.
Why in God's name would anyone build a stadium on Candlestick point. Isn't one mistake there bad enough? That is one of the WORST locations to play a sport other then American football. It's windy, cold, dreary, constantly damp, foggy, and did I mention cold?
I had this idea of the roof supported by the top level for the KC stadium. I quickly drew up the same idea (using paint) for the SC stadium. I still would prefer an SSS though.
Like others here I just don't see this happening. Maybe than can get another smaller stadium next to in and share the parking lot but that's not being discussed and there may not be enough land. I'm not sure why the Merc even published this article. They call it a "longshot" in the 2nd paragraph and have no real meaningful quotes or facts on the subject.
It would make assloads more sense for the 49ers and Raiders to share a stadium, but of course the Merc doesn't have a problem with them having personal preference.
Sounds like the Home Despot Center to me! They never seem to sell out and even though it's a SSS. Maybe when Becks arrives they will sell out but certainly not now.
Yeah their camera work does suck. But you can't argue with sports on a nice sunny day, no matter what they are.
