San Jose - Kansas City (Saturday, 4/19) pregame thread

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Will The Boys from San Jose continue sending their opponents away in Quakes home kit colors - all black & blue?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Will the visitors from the Land of Oz conjure up some of that Pedrag Radosavlevic magic?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp The Earthquakes utilizing the CyberRays' presence and Goodsport's absence :( toward maximum attendance and onfield domination? The Wizards feeding Tony Meola's hunger for (among other things) a shutout win?

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Discuss.

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp GO EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

    should be fun.

don't forget .... it's the return of Jimmy Conrad (he's healthy, right?). what's the chances that he gets a yellow card? pretty good, I'd say. I betcha he pops landon once.

also, wolff seems in good form ... should be interesting to see how goose/dayak/waibel deal with the speed.

either way i'm gonna be there and it's gonna be great (bringing people with me. doing my part to boost attendence, baby).

    god bless the quakes!

yay! 3 points baby, I think I was the only one to predict a 2-1 victory for us, though I did have both scorers wrong...eh, happens. So if I'm not mistaken, we go second in the table behind KC who are tops based on goal diff. right. Considering we play them next week, this is the perfect chance to go top early. Hopefully we can stay top or near the top of the West for the entire season, if we do that, and turn our form into playoff prime time action...with homefield advantage should we reach the semis...I think the Quakes could surprise even us this season.

Side note: Hope Landon feels better and bags the Quakes' first hat trick against KC or the Galaxy this season.!

    Go Quakes!!

But if we lose we will be mathmatically eliminated from playoff contention. ;)

    Moo duck... Moo duck..

It should be more like couda couda, but eh, who cares.

    It's time :)

3-2 'Quakes with MLS' worst keeper being bailed out with a few late goals by Lagos and Ekelund.

2-1 or 1-1 finish to the Quakes if Landon and Ekelund are healthy.

OK lineup mavens...given FY's penchant for sticking with a "hot hand", which XI am I introducing Saturday? Will Frank make way for a healthy Ekelund? If so, how? My $.02...pull Corrales back to the back line and the much maligned Waibel sits.

    Discuss.

No no no. Corrales does not go to the backline. He's too valuable in the midfield right now. I think there would be too much instability with the reintroduction of Ekelund into the center midfield. Where would he go anyway? Dunivant is staying at the left back spot for now.

We are not shutting out KC. Simutenkov is much improved and prepared for this season. Wolff is always danger with that speed.

I'm most concerned about Waibel. Put Roner in his spot? Robinson will not be ready, and even if he was, he won't be in form.

    ...............Ching...Donovan

    Corrales...Ekelund...Mulrooney...Mullan

    ...Dunivant...Agoos...Dayak...Waibel

    ....................Onstad

Maybe Roner in for Waibel, or Lagos in for Mullan.

KC are going to be stronger than last year. We won't shut them out, but I think considering we can win and we will improve from this last match, I say We'll eke out a win.

Simutenkov scores from a Wolff assist

Ching and Donovan score. A late goal by late sub Alvarez puts it out of reach at the very end.

It's early, so FY will focus on continuity and game fitness first, but I hope FY will make at least one sub.

    KC
    SJ 2: 1 KCW

We generally play like crap at SJ. I was surprised with SJ's win at Colorado. That leads me to think KC will lose this game (sure hope I'm wrong).

I think if Wolff starts and plays the full 90 we could win this game. Otherwise I give SJ the edge. LD is just too much to handle for any defense right now, except for maybe LA.
Simutenkov didn't do much in the opener, and Chris Brown continues to score early season goals. We gave up two goals off headers inside the 6 yard box, something SJ will surely see and try to exploit. Gansler said the team would be addressing this issue this week.

KC has always played the Quakes tough. Although KC offense has improved, I think their defense will need some time to get together. The team which scores first will win...

At home with the crowd behind them, Donovan and Ekelund healthier, the new guys with a little more experience under their belts, the Quakes should win this one. I'm going with a 2-1 score line. Goals by Donovan and Ching, Mullan with an assist or two.

Should be a rockin' good time.

    GO QUAKES!!

win number 2 on its way....

    Quakes 1 (Ching 7)
    KC 0

KC will rattle the post and press the entire second half, but the close confines of Spartan will aid in the shutting down of Wolff & co....

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Mark my words (pun intended): the attendance for the first two home games will be huge as the Earthquakes win both games big... all because I won't be able to make it to either game. :(

When are we supposed have Robinson back? We need him in the back line (with Dayak probably moving to right back)....

No, and there never seems to be any "word" about expected attendance. The couple times I've spoken to Quakes staffers (or GMs) about this during a game week, their estimates have been way over or way under. Just guessing, expect about 20K, given it's Mia's annual visit and she's actually playing. If she still puts butts in seats (not sure, I don't follow WUSA closely). SJ/KC hasn't been a huge draw the past couple years.

FYI, now that the season's underway, there are weekly "MLS Attendance Week #" threads over in the MLS: News & Analysis forum. Before the weekend lots of people guess attendance, and after the weekend everybody flames each other about the results... ;)

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp ASAP, I hope!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp But wouldn't Robinson be a better fit at right back than Dayak?
