Never mind, Bhaskar. You mentioned that you just sold yours yesterday, which was the only reason I asked. Moving on.

Was it worth it to me to sell my ticket? I miss Quakes games because I have other things going on and get nothing in return. Here, as is standard with ticket selling scenarios, I chose to put my ticket on the market and I set the price, and let it stay on there even after Messi was in San Jose, so it was by definition worth it. That's capitalism. And is also why I'm not whining that people who paid to see Messi were cheering for Messi.

I was at the WCQ game and caught a cold so that one wasn't worth it.

I was riding high after that WCQ and never expected we'd crash out in T&T.

You have trained him well Obi Wan. My sons all started attending games when they were a couple of year old. I have a picture of my wife, 8 yr, 6yr, and 3 yr with the 2001 MLS Cup.

Unfortunately, the 49ers sucked when they were young so they are all fans of other NFL Teams. Well, the two who actually care...

There is a bit of a religious cult aspect to it. I walked in behind 4 or 5 guys, maybe early 30's-ish, about 40 pounds overweight, with oversize pink #10 jerseys and matching little pink converse. Yeah OK, bros, get on with your bad selves!

It's a good thing Messi came this year and not last season, the last thing we needed is for the team to look like a group of drab doormats in front of a capacity crowd of neutrals and casuals. We might have picked up some new fans last night.

The highlights are really cool to watch over and again!

I never realized the Quakes were the highest scoring team in the league.

If they score 12 more goals, they will have surpassed the 2024 season totals.

I'm also surprised this is Miami's only trip to the west coast this season.

We heard it on Sirius XM during the game.

That is a beautiful story, thank you for posting it.

I’m a little vexed that Messi has done more for the color pink than the Barbie movie did.

We sold ours, not do to "needing the cash" but not needing/wanting to get home at midnight or later on a weekday and still have to be at work by 6am (not in my 20's any more ) ;). If it had been a Sat game we may have done it.

Daniel should have come out on the first goal on the lofted cross and his distribution was poor (kept getting caught in the wind).

    [/QUOTE]

Yep, and he probably should have made a more proactive play on the second goal at the top of his 6 yard box. He bails out our mistakes, mostly as a shot stopper, he's fantastic at that, but his achilles heal is his reluctance to come off his line...he doesn't command the top of his 6 yard box...not great at coming into traffic to snag a ball...he hangs back...and defenders are expecting/ praying he comes up into the play to deal with anything in his 6 yard box...but he hangs back...and it will cost us some weird crap goals. But it's an overall wash since his shot stopping is really high end...just wish he commanded his box better....

Well one of them is actually great, in fact not just great but the greatest ever. Not being a hater I saw Barbie with a group of friends at the New Parkway Theater in Oakland on opening day which was just about the best way to see it with so many people dressed up (as a film snob I waited to see Oppenheimer on 70mm IMAX later), and it was certainly entertaining but hardly a great piece of cinema that will stand the test of time (aside from like the set design I guess)... don't expect to see it on the Sight and Sound list anytime soon.

I don't want to generalize too much but I remember as a kid being a big fan of certain athletes... maybe at some point people mature out of that and become fans of clubs or national teams but not so much individual athletes, perhaps at some point they put one on a pedestal and learned the hard way not to hero worship anyone, whereas you can be a diehard fan of a sports team even while thinking they're a bunch of incompetent losers (waves arms around at the last decade here)... so maybe those Messi stans like the Ronaldo ones on social media are emotionally stunted manchildren whereas this 6 year old is mature beyond his years. Just a theory.

I don't know about other countries but in this country we seem to have a proclivity towards hero worship / Great Man™ theory. There are the regular players and then there are ones with superhuman powers. We have endless debates about whoe's "the GOAT", we talk about how many championships "Michael Jordan won" or "Tom Brady won" when these are clearly team championships, team achievements. I wonder if it has to do with many of us having grown up in monotheistic religions, or a culture with superpower beings like Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, and The Tooth Fairy.

Agree but MLS teams are top heavy. Barely any money gets invested into defenders/goalies. Pretty much all the DP's are attacking players. Makes the games more open I guess but outside of MLS, usually Liga MX or now with Seattle & Miami playing the CWC, it shows how far behind (and unbalanced) teams are. I mean we can make videos of moments every weekend from really bad almost amateurish defending across all MLS teams.

I remember going thru a little hero worship phase too. I’d check out those short biographies for kids at the school library - Babe Ruth, Abe Lincoln, etc. Of course in these books these guys did nothing but virtually super-human things and were completely infallible as human beings. Then when I got older I read a book called “Ball Four” by Jim Bouton, former Yankees pitcher. It was a no holds barred look at the shenanigans of the players in those days. “Greenies - amphetamines, drinking, skirt-chasing, foul mouthed, etc. This included people like Mickey Mantle. That pretty much cured me of Great Man™ syndrome.

Another one I remember was about a fictional character - “The Boy Who Batted 1000”. He was able to always draw a base on balls. Technically that would be the boy who batted 0 but who’s counting.

I’m guessing Quakes are down in attendance through this point year-over-year because the Levi’s game will occur later in the season.

That is correct, the average always shoots up after games at Levi's and/or Stanford

I'm sure the Stanford attendance will be decent but I wonder about Levi's this year. We're trying to tie it to Mexican Independence Day. Is that really a big day of celebration among Mexican-Americans in our community? Cinco De Mayo is the one that seems to get all of the attention, actual historical significance relative to Mexican Independence Day notwithstanding.
