Best I’ve seen the Quakes play in a long time. Can’t believe these people are chanting “Messi! Messi!” WTH seriously.
The final score is: 3 – 3 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer (including MLS) games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
What a game! This club just won the Wooden Spoon 5 months ago! Now we get a Point against the Pink Phony Club! Go Quakes!
Messi walked back over to the ref and the ref told him to leave or he'd send him off lol Bruce actually helped usher him away Edit: 👀 Leo Messi has some post-game words for head referee Joe Dickerson over a no-call late in the match.Messi's chirping earns him a yellow as he starts to walk away, but that leads to him walking back to Dickerson. The ref threatens a red. Tense moment.#InterMiamiCF #Messi𓃵— Franco Panizo (@FrancoPanizo) May 15, 2025
We should have awarded at least two PK’s. And there third goal should have been stopped for the take down of Harkes that sprung their attack. SHIT ref!!
I saw the ref with the yellow in the air as Messi was walking away (the first time). Edit - just went back and confirmed. Messi was discussing with the ref, and then while walking away, he was shaking hands with Espinosa and the ref is in the background, out of focus, with the yellow in the air.
Messi got a yellow and it was a decent touch to end the game that we would have won if they hadn't injured Chicho (or if our two previously injured players were in better shape)(or didn't miss what should have been the winning goal).
And hopefully the Earthquakes will continue gelling. I noticed that too, though I was heartened to then immediately hear the loud booing from the stands at those “Messi! Messi!” chanters. Even Taylor Twellman mentioned it on air, praising the booers for reminding the chanters “who the home team is”. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
“Earthquakes battle to 3-3 draw with Messi, Inter Miami at sold out PayPal Park” (San Jose Mercury News - Wednesday, 5/14/25) Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi (10) fights for the ball against the San Jose Earthquakes’ Daniel Munie (5) during the first half of an MLS soccer match at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif., on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. (Ray Chavez/Bay Area News Group) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Very entertaining, somewhat crazy, fairly even match. I thought Miami was going to score a winner late and I had resigned myself to a 4-3 loss. So I’m good with the tie. They were pretty dangerous in the box towards the end. You’ve got Messi, Alba, Busquets, Allende, and Segovia of whomever all tooling around there. They know how to score goals from those positions, so credit to our defense for hanging on. How many times was Messi dribbling across the top of the box to his left? I knew Allende would be a problem when I saw him starting at forward. He’s a really good player. Munie played pretty well. Floriani made me nervous but Rodrigues does also. Rodrigues’s shoulder didn’t look right. Another separated shoulder? IIRC he was goofing around with the ball when he should have just cleared it when his injury happened. Chicho was running a little funny from the start of the game I thought. Looked like he was slightly dragging a leg. If it’s another hammie he’ll be out for a while. Bummer. I guess if Chicho’s out that solves the Hernán problem. We either do 3-5-2 with Hernán as the CAM or he takes Bouda’s spot on the left and we stick with the 3-4-3 or they split time there on the left. Pellegrino is a big drop-off there so leave him on the bench.
What was Bruce doing way out on the other side of the field with Messi and the ref after the game? Was he fanboy-ing out? Trying to get an autograph? A shirt?
Well, back when the schedule was announced, I thought there was no way Messi was going to fly across the country to play the reigning Wooden Spoon holders, but I was wrong. So props to Messi for showing up and playing 90. But he was also a whiny little turd to the ref even with the preposterous level of protection the ref gave him. One of our guys breathes hard on Messi, he goes down and gets the foul. One of our guys gets scissor tackled by two Miami players, play on. But Messi didn't get that one foul towards the end of the game, and he gets in the ref's face about it. I won't mind never seeing Messi in San Jose again.
Bruce pulled Messi away fro the ref so that Messi wouldn’t get a red card. The ref was shit. He should have given us two PK’s in the first twenty minutes. Then later, they committed a handball in their box. The player’s arm was straight out. And they tripped Bouda in the box later. That was a real pile. Other than the ref, we played really well. Easily well enough to win. A lot of good play from a lot of our guys. Well done. F the ref!! Go Quakesfans!!
He's still in the negative maybe, still trying to dig himself out of a hole? Someone said that Messi would play because Apple is here, and I said nah - Apple probably doesn't even know there's an MLS team here. But that Apple "services VP" or something wanker guy did the first kick and something else. I guess maybe it was a factor. Don Graber was also here so maybe they had a little pow-wow with Apple.
Yes Per the San Jose Mercury News: "Garber’s Silicon Valley visit also includes meetings with Cupertino-based Apple, a pivotal partner not just in MLS’s growing outreach globally but in bringing Messi aboard two years ago as soccer’s most acclaimed player."#MLS pic.twitter.com/bSIEmfpdSc— Favian Renkel (@FavianRenkel) May 14, 2025 Apparently Bruce kept it up even after getting Messi away from the ref... I see a few comments somewhat negative about Messi and sideshow that is Inter Miami. So first, many of you bitch & moan through out the season about anything Messi/inter to the point of having its own thread. Then the complaining turns to "he won't play in PPP" so let's make money by selling my season tickets etc. He actually plays and the game turns out pretty entertaining.... imagine that. Welcome to america where you can have your cake, eat it, then complain about it. I can't imagine how many people would be on here complaining left & right how messi would have disrespected the Quakes by not playing blah blah blah...
Sure, but those are two different issues. I saw Pele, Chinaglia and the Cosmos come to town when I was a kid but that doesn’t mean even then, I was rooting for them and against my team, the San Jose Earthquakes. I also saw Maradona and Napoli play an exhibition game against the UNAM Pumas at Spartan Stadium and he was booed off the pitch but no one cried because fans jeered Diego. I'm sure most local soccer fans are all happy to pay for and watch Messi play live in their own backyard as he was the greatest player in the world for the last 10-15 years. Both he and Beckham have brought a lot of exposure to our league and yes we are all grateful. Coming from someone who watched amateur teams and players in the late 80's and 90's in front of only a few hundred fans in high school stadiums, of course I'm very happy to see Messi play in San Jose. That however, doesn't mean our hometown fans should be rooting against their own team. MLS is probably the only league in the world where opposing players get an extra home game just because of one player. In many top or even bottom leagues around the world, it is very rare that visiting teams get so much support from their hometown fans. I mean none of us care that much that the LA Galaxy are last in the league. If anything, I think we are all relishing the fact that they are sucking now. I don’t want to see them fold because that would be a detriment to the league and the game. I was even sad to see Chivas USA fold. Regardless, I was hoping for a win last night but am glad we tied these guys. We were the last team in the league just last November and now we the mighty, big money and star-studded Miami team to a draw and most San Jose fans should be ecstatic. After a 3-game losing streak, the Quakes have now got their third consecutive positive result. This is something that I think most Quakes fans are or should be grateful for. Go Quakes!
