Quakes squander chance after chance and their opponents make the most of a few lapses. Feels like this has been a theme lately.

New guy looks GOOD. Big, smooth if not super fast, nice touch and vision.

I want my two hours back.

I really feel for those at the game who have to put up with the fun of getting out of the parking lots. At least I can just change the channel...

A home loss to Houston, talk about hitting rock bottom. Disgraceful.

We need to talk about... Wondo. He is past his pull date, or looks it. It's morale issue, and don't blame Quincy.

Maybe if we would play a CAM we wouldn't allow the likes of Ricardo Clark and Dreds Beckerman to score on us. As it stands, we have no one picking up their DMids.

Also, whoever coaches our set pieces on both sides of the ball should be summarily fired.

Fire Doyle. Fire Kinnear. This team will NEVER be able to compete in this league under the bumbling mismanagement of these two.

Hopefully there was plenty of port wine for people to drown their sorrows in.

We've lost to the two worst teams in the league. Chicago away a few weeks ago

    Back from the game.

Wow. That first half, the Goddess of Soccer took her scarf from around her neck and wrapped it firmly around her eyes. And shuddered. Both teams were terrible. It was like everyone was meeting each other for the first time.

The second half, she would occasionally take a peek. (Like for that beautiful second Dynamo goal.) But we needed more from the Quakes, much more. Our new #10 could have been the hero with his first touch (a free header), but it was not to be. I know he's just joined the team and didn't have many minutes, but I was a little underwhelmed. (Admittedly my standard of evaluation is going to be much more critical at this point in the season than if this was game one. And I think that's fair.)

Excellent game by Cato. Numerous defensive saves and he worked into the attack. Poor Stewart, after he received the yellow card, the ref had no love for him. He could have been gunned down on the field and it would have been "play on." Actually, he practically was.

I must say, I'm very disappointed that this incarnation of the Earthquakes organization has become characterized by poor to mediocre performance. That's not just my estimation. I've brought up the Earthquakes several times in random conversations in the last week and the response has been, "Oh, yeah, I went to a Quakes game last season. They were terrible." What should I say to that? "Yes, but I enjoy spending my time and money so that I can watch that terribleness up close!"?

    I don't know. Time for a scotch.

I realized after I got to the game that my multi-layered skirt was inside out, not real obvious (clearly!) so I left it that way, even though it occurred to me that if the team won, I would have to wear an inside-out skirt to every future game.

So if there's a silver lining in this game for me, that's it.

I didn't think the game was that bad.
    • The Quakes had 15-20x more chances than Houston but were incredibly unlucky.
    • Stewart had a remarkable game
    • Bernardez should have stayed in so he could score a 2nd goal
    • I was disappointed with the new #10 Goitom. Very tall but not strong and not very fast (much of his body length is in his torso, so legs are not long). Can't jump. Doesn't fight for the ball like Quincy
    • Getting into and out of the platinum lot was finally a breeze.

As for the game, a little unlucky tonight. Houston keeper made some great saves, especially on the Quintero header off the Quincy cross. And a few calls that could have gone the other way.

Quakes had like over 2x shots, 60% possession, like 5x corners, better passing accuracy, etc. Yeah I know it doesn't matter if you lose, but it does because it tells you if you were systematically outplayed or just didn't catch the breaks.

How to lie with statistics. Dynamo had most of the possession until they were up 2, then were fine with letting the ball stay on our end of the field because they knew we were toothless and they'd easily parry away any serious effort on goal. If they even needed to, because 90% of the time our shots wouldn't present any kind of threat, traveling way over/around the goal or straight to the keeper.

For those who went to the game, just curious, did they rev up the scanners everywhere or just at the back entrance? We could not understand why the line was not moving, then realized that people were having to remove belts, dentures, even underwire bras to make it through the scanner. And even so, a lot of people were getting scanned. It was worse than TSA.

I thought that with us down two midfielders we would be sure to see Tommy at some point. But, alas, Kinnear takes out Salinas and puts in Goitom, pushing Wondo out to left mid. Then Barrett in for Muma. We never used a third. As useless as Wondo was, Goitom should have replaced him and put Tommy in for Shea.

I did not expect us to win in vancouver last week and did not expect us to lose to houston at home today. Welcome to MLS!

Barrett at left wing did not make sense to me... he is not a provider/creator, he is a pure finisher. Put in TT for sealy's sake!!!

A devastating home loss to Houston, two years running, making Wednesday close to a must win.

No chemistry in the center of midfield. Where was Alashe? Kinnear making a point about how he can capsize a prospect's career? Ceren had a stinker, really as did Godoy. After the second Houston goal and especially after Goitom entered, San Jose was so direct that the two DM's were invisible.

Goitom probably should have scored on his first touch. What to do with him? He looks like he isn't going to run around too much and will position himself in the box. I don't think you start him over Amarikwa for that Goonie stuff.

Sure, the Quakes had more chances, but when you give up a 5th minute goal and another one in the first five minutes of the second half, both seemingly on Houston's first touch of the ball in each half, the stats will mislead as the favored home team chases the game.

I need to see the condensed match to better judge if Amarikwa fouled Willis on the Bernardez goal. Live, I didn't think so.

Sure, the match was active with a lot of ping pong in Houston's box in the second half. So entertaining while disheartening.

So done with the Doyle/Kinnear approach. Looks like the 26 year old "kid with bite" got burned tonight, and while he might be a good player, it is so late in the season to bring someone like that on to the team and disrupt the chemistry of the empty bucket midfield that was pretty much set.

Again, the spirit and effort are good, but for f's sake, it's Houston.

PS. "It marked the Dynamo’s first win away from home since July 10, 2015, when they also beat San Jose at Avaya Stadium." (http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...rfect-result-over-old-friend-kinnear-san-jose)

It would require the bubonic plague to suddenly wipe out all bench players and probably 3 starters for TT to get in a game at this point. And even then Dom would probably only sub him at 89' if they were somehow ahead with 8 men.

Don't think he'll play anymore this year.

So on the MLS summary, they mention a shot that seemed to be a goal -- the Houston announcer thought so -- the keeper reached his arm back and pushed it out of the net. I was not at an angle to see that. Anyone else? Not that it matters.
