Yesterday was a very tiring day so I went to bed at halftime. Don’t think I’ll bother watching the second half.

At 17:40 they talk about DJ. I'm not impressed at all. A 26 yr old with very minimal history playing 2nd division in the States? He's got horrible numbers, not a great dribble rate. Maybe he gives us a bump for being a new player wanting to prove himself but I don't see him sticking around much more than a season or so. I really hope Bruce has players in view to sign that will make a difference and fight it out with our first team players. DJ seems like just another bench/depth piece not someone who's going to add much to what we already have.

As far as the Dallas game, it's obvious we're missing greatly Timo & Nico and Judd is looking like he's being run into the ground without having a proper backup #9. It's on Bruce. As much as he's gotten out of this team he dropped the ball not having proper backups. I still only see 2 maybe 3 players on our bench that I'd keep. If our signings in the next window are the quality of DJ then we won't improve much and we better hope Timo & Nico don't get injured in the second half of the season.

Yeah, they can’t even get that right. Giving away trinkets is a lot cheaper than signing quality players.

Cannot disagree - but also wonder how much of the paucity of depth is Bruce and how much is Fisher wanting to putting us on a diet to save every penny for his desert fever dreams. They’re both such arrogant people it’s tough to know if the fault lies with one or (more likely) it’s shared equally.

Beau can play backup 10 for Niko. Unfortunately Harkes/Jona are massive drop offs from Vieira/Beau, so that is where I'd most like to see some new talent (followed by 9). Finding a 6/8 is MUCH easier than a 10... so.

that was really really stupid, the Ultras throwing beer cans and bottles at the FC Dallas players. And what makes the media? A player drinking the beer.

I hope the Quakes really penalize the Ultras for this. I assume this will result in no cans being sold in the stadium again.

That being said, Chris Penso was really awful last night. Why are we getting the dregs of PRO recently? Recently, Tim Ford and Chris Penso. We even got Bazakos recently too, altho he had a decent game that night. Kind of unfair.

Not good, but what was with that guy from the Dallas bench sprinting across the field to join in the celebrations? At first I thought he might be a pitch invader. Then he was surprised he got a red card.

Nothing I've seen posted so far negates my decision to not watch the second half of the game. I hope that doesn't also end up applying to the second half of the season!

i didn't realize that was who the red card was for. We thought it was for a coach on our bench.
we were so pissed at the non-call on that goal that we left the stadium immediately.

OTOH, i was irked at how much the Quakes fall down and look for a call. Maybe that's why Penso didn't call it, but he'd be wrong. But the Quakes were annoying in that regard.

Yeah that’s why I wrote this part of my post:

If you watched that USOC game you’d say, damn, this guy was the best player on the field but his USL numbers don’t bear that out. On the one hand you’d say well trust your eyes and not stats but OTOH you’d say well look at the big sample not the tiny sample. He has also played in the Dutch 2nd division and Grenada nats. Like I said I hope we scouted him more than that one game. I wonder if his success against us was due to going up against not great 1v1 defenders. I think it was Jasinski in the 1st half and not sure who in the 2nd. He switched sides in the 2nd half. I don’t think he went up against Ricketts or Benji.

The other thing about him is that he’s 6’, and I saw part of one of their games where he played forward. So maybe he could be 9 depth but he looks like a winger primarily.

As for the game I don’t think this is all about missing Timo and Niko. That’s part of it sure but we’ve had great games without Timo. And it can’t be all about missing Niko. Our form started to drop even while Timo and Niko were playing. Minnesota came to PPP and solidly outplayed us until we got hot late in the game and we were bad in Toronto even before Niko went out.

So I think there’s more going on. Fatigue is part of it, and yes not rotating enough and Bruce not trusting his depth is part of that. But also I think there’s a natural regression to the mean. We were really hot at the start of the season and getting some luck too and now not so much. This happens all the time to teams. Good spells and bad spells. I think we just aren’t as good as it seemed initially, and the challenge as always will be to try to find ways to get better. Matt Doyle claims he heard that our “purse is closed”, meaning no more significant additions, which may explain signing USL players.

That’s no excuse to throw beer cans and water bottles at them. Insults yes! Rude gestures definitely. Objects? NFW.

You may have misinterpreted what I said! Throwing bottles and cans at them demonstrated that our fans (at least some of them) were losers too -- at least last night. Until they engaged in middle schoolish behavior, they could still pass as devoted yet hard done fans, albeit shirtless. Somewhat respectable, insults notwithstanding.

    Sorry then.

I’m all for singing nasty songs at the enemy and shouting insults at them. I’ve been shirtless in the stands a few times too. But throwing stuff at the opposing players or refs is right out.

Throwing stuff on the field is not OK either, but it’s not harmful.

    And I acknowledge that if
I had been in the stands that night, I’d have been pretty outraged. I get especially incensed when the ref favors the opposing team in Our stadium. I expect the home side to get a little slack (which I still don’t like), get the short end of the stick at home really pees me off.

But I wouldn’t have thrown anything at the enemy players.

    Go Quakesfans!!

The beer can hit the player in the head, i don't care how hard done we were by the officials or how offended somebody might be by a goal celebration, that kind of behavior is criminally stupid.

I did not word that well, did I? No, what I was saying was that just as our players demonstrated their weaknesses on the field, so some of our fans also showed that they were not very competent in their fan role by doing some stupid shit, thus failing the team they allegedly support.

One long-time knock on the Ultras has been that they sometimes make everything more about them than about the team or the game. Having a tantrum in the stands is a perfect example of that behavior.

My though is why are the songs that use "banned" words allowed to be sung, buy anyone?

BTW, someone in the midfield stands threw something on the pitch earlier in the game. Likely not an Ultra. So, if we’re going to engage in collective disparagement, it’s the entire fanbase in attendance, and more broadly humanity.
