San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R]       Will the depleted Terremotos de San José overcome a two-goal deficit to advance to the regional promised land?       Will the visiting Central American powerhouse withstand yet another late-game run against the upstart Yanquis?       The Earthquakes rumbling through adversity to an upset win? CSD Municipal finishing the home team's tourney run in Stade de Spartan?       Discuss.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
The game will be that much tougher for the Quakes without Mulrooney and Dayak (suspensions), and perhaps without Ekelund (injury).       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R] 10 days to prepare.... although cover for Dayak AND Mulrowney will be tough...kinda negates a possible Ekelund return.... well, Quakes are up against it....hope they bring their real game to Spartan..... keep in mind they need to win but two just to force extra time.... C'mon you Quakes! I say Donovan with a hat-trick to send them through....
San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R] Right. But coming through the filter of Guatemalan announcers and linguistic curtain, I'm not sure that they may have played the better game just now.
San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R] Yeah, just by hearing the names over and over, sounded like Quakes were putting it to them in the second half. And were much more dangerous.
Its too early in the Season to be negative. I've seen a lot worse first leg performances be turned around. Yes the suspensions will hurt, but, I'm sure the lads will take heart from the way they finished. -Richard
the key is get an early goal in the first 20 minutes or so so all the pressure then shifts to the guat side. it would also be a big plus - maybe a necessity? - for ekelund to be healthy and ready to go. would be nice if a few fans showed up too.
San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R] This is of topic but somehow related... Why does this thread get the "Sticky" lable before the title and how does a thread qualify for that label? Broccoli Dolores
I think the Quakes can do well in this next game. If they can keep their heads and focus. Will they pull it off and make it through? I really don't know. We really haven't had the opportunity to see this new team play. Manny Lagos: "We came to a hostile environment and we didn't react very well. We missed some chances and we had some lapses that cost us. We have to learn from games like these and get better." I think the team was seriously not ready for the atmosphere and they were put off their game. That happens in this sport. Once a team is out of the game mentally, it's over. And I think that's what happened. I think they tried to pull it together, or they wouldn't have had those two goals. But it just wasn't enough. If they can keep their cool and focus, then maybe they can pull a win out of this next game. Will it be enough? Who knows at this point? We just haven't seen this team yet. So it's hard to say. Scary part is no Cowboy or Richie! Ugh! It's going to be interesting. Who can really say what's going to happen? Let's just hope they can get their focus back.
Re: San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R]       This thread was sticked since, considering that it's the actual thread about the upcoming game, it would be a shame for it to quickly be buried under all of the "Landon's abzz" and "I'ma gonna neck-punch ya, yessiree!" threads.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I totally agree. With all of the Quakes players available, a two-goal win by the Boys in Blue would have been tough but achievable. Without them, the chances for that happening are worse.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R] I think we'll miss Mulrooney more than anybody else. Not so sure Dayak and Agoos are what we need back on defense. So far our D hasn't been real reliable.
So the lineup will be what.... ------------------Onstad------------------------- -Waibel----Robinson------Agoos-----Corrales------ -Russell----Ekelund(?)----Mullan-----Lagos-------- -----------Donovan------Ching or Alverez--------- Put me in coach, i'm ready to play
San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R] I'd just like to thank Manny for scoring. At least we aren't humiliated by leaving there scoreless. TRANSFORM MARI
------------------Onstad------------------------ -Waibel----Robinson--------Agoos----Corrales---- -Alverez----Ekelund-------Donovan----Lagos----- ----------------Ching------Mullan---------------- I think this is what we will see with the possible exception of Russel for Alverez if he is healthy. The one positive I take from Sunday's match is that maybe we will see the 2001 Manny Lagos. If we do then the season is looking more promising.
San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R] So Sticky make it unable to move down despite post or just catches peoples attention?.... Broccoli Dolores
Swap Lagos (to right mid) and Arturo (to left mid) and you have the probable Quakes' starting line-up. (If Ian is healthy, he may get the start at right mid, moving Manny back to the left.) And Donovan better be available, otherwise that's total crap. ------------------Onstad------------------------ -Waibel----Robinson--------Agoos----Corrales---- -Lagos----Ekelund-------Donovan----Alvarez----- ----------------Ching------Mullan----------------
Re: San Jose Earthquakes - CSD Municipal (Wedensday, 3/26) thread [R]       The former (although I suppose that the latter happens too).       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Bruce would be an idiot to call in Landon to camp early and make him miss this game. He knows how important this game is to the Quakes and MLS - he also knows how the Quakes are battling injuries, suspensions, etc. - and since Landon is well acquainted with Bruce's camps, etc., Landon wouldn't be missing out on all that much by not showing up until the Thursday before the game. At least that's how I figure it. Having said that, I will be in Seattle for the game and hopefully Landon won't be too fatigued to play a good 70-80 minutes of the game. btw Goodsport, when I used the word "few" I probably misspoke! I want you guys to pack the place and rock the house. And even if you don't "pack the place", I still hope you "rock the house"!!! Viva la Quakes!! Viva la MLS!!
