Convey made up for his mistake on the defensive end, in the best way possible -- by scoring one himself.

    Good workrate by him.

Crazy goal given up by the Quakes defense but Convey made up for it. Nice goal from his new position. Maybe he has found his niche at left back?

Can someone describe Chicago's goal? I was getting some golden grahams when it happened...

Basically, the ball came out to the left (Quakes' side, defensively), and Pause played it into space for Pappa to drill home. Cannon had no chance, especially as Convey was nowhere to be found on that side.

Grateful, however, that Convey made up for it less than 120 seconds later.

    Halftime, Quakes lead 2-1.

Missed the first goal, but some thoughts:

    - Convey is a good player when played in a more natural position (on the wing). Not sold on him defensively, but he brings a LOT offensively when he's able to move up and down the wing, rather than to try and move things out of the middle. (If Bobby can sort out the defensive issues, I suspect that Bob Bradley will come a-callin').
    - We're still a mess in central midfield. It's looking more and more like Corrales's problem though. The guy just has no creative vision. He could get away with that if he were on the wing, but in the middle it's horribly exposed. If Huckerby leaves at the end of this season, I suspect that the only place for Corrales on this team next year is at left back.
    - Our defense as a whole? Still a giant mess. When, oh when, will Hernandez come back? :(
    - Alvarez, as many have already said, still has no right foot, but I like what he brings to the team as a kind of offensive "x" factor.
    - Campos is appalling. Are Amarikwa and Weaver hurt? This guy is barely a fourth choice striker. He's awful.

New-to-me nickname: the Telefutura boys call the captain "O.K. Corrales."

    Quick Wolff interview notes:
    - team looking very good, little setback last week in KC but the team is much improved team compared to last year, thanks to Doyle and Yallop
    - no involvement in player acquisition.
    - season expectations? to have fun, make the playoffs would be wonderful
    - stadium: "we'll get there". "Realistic" for the stadium to be up in 2 to 3 years.

I wouldn't blame the Chicago goal on Convey, he was trying to cover the most direct pass option for Chicago, which was right in front of goal because we allowed our defense to get pulled into a crowd on the right wing. Either the whole defense f'ed up by crowding around the ball like that, or our midfield f'ed up by not covering the wide players and forcing our centerbacks out of position to press the ball. Its hard to tell but I don't think our players should have tried to crowd out the ball when its that wide.

Nice segment by Lew Wolff. He seems to be a pretty niuce guy...thats great. I think he trusts Frank & John quite a bit. Hopefully, they will repay his confidence in them. So far they have been inconsistent but he is right, its only their 2nd year. Unfortunately, us fans are too impatient, myself included!

Still wishing he'd re-think or re-consider the capacity of the ground and the lack of presence of corporate boxes and/or a restaurant/function center. But we have time for that, don't we? :)

Nonetheless, good interview. Great to hear from Lew on air every once in a while.

Second half has started. No Quakes subs, apparently.

    Blanco on for Chicago.

    I stand corrected, then.

And a good thing... Campos was horrible in the opening 45 minutes.

Perhaps this means Convey pushes forward a bit, and Alvarez moves up top?

    Good save by Cannon...

No, it was retarded. Convey has been terrible after being very good at lb, and denton is his usual weakest link on the backline. That sub may have lost us this game.
