I think they failed. They would've done better to flop around and waste time like they did all game, rather than sit back and actually let us play.
LOL, we had 37 shots, 16 on target, 13 corners and a 6.6 xG. And 35% possession? It didn’t seem that low. I would have actually guessed we had more than them especially since we sat on the ball for the last 15 minutes.
Yeah, It was quite the meltdown from Austin. At the same time I loved that we smelled blood and kept going.
At this rate, the San Jose Earthquakes will be playing in the Leagues Cup next year instead of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
SJE possession was 68%. I figured xG must of been 10... 6 seems too low (we scored 5 and hit the post 3 times).
OMG that was one of the wildest games I can remember. We seemed doomed and then after Timo’s PK, we found our mojo again. Scoring all those goals in a few minutes was another high, like the LAFC game. And Judd finally came thru, with a brace. I think he is trying to keep up with Bouda!
Great performance, particularly in the second half. 1st place, wow, who woud've thought it possible. Not me.
The San Jose Earthquakes are also the first MLS team in the post-shootout era to have won as many as eight of its first nine games. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G

It seems like Ford added up all the time Stuver spent standing around before taking goal kicks or after saves and put it into the stoppage time instead of giving him a yellow card. Ford is a top ref, but I don’t understand 14 minutes, SJ might have gotten another goal but mostly passed it around rubbing in Austin’s embarrassment.
Wow! What a game!! I watched on delay, and wow!! It took a while for our guys to find their finishing touch, but wow! Just tore them apart. And Broccoli FC did give up on the game. They did not want to play 14 minutes of stoppage, or even one minute. They were cooked. Bouda had a terrific game! He made a lot of defensive plays and was very involved in the offense. Really great. Timo was great. Niko was great. Judd was great. Just an excellent all around team effort. Daniel was great! Munie and Roberts were great. Jack J was great! — What happened to Benji?! Go Quakesfans!!
Come on you gotta mention Ricketts. He was a terror on the left side and locked it down on D. I think he won the PK too?
Ricketts was great, the entire back line was great. A tremendous performance on short rest against what is usually a trap game. They didn't fall for the trap and were, by far, the better team on the night. Props to Arena and staff, and props to the Quakes.
Austin was already wasting time with goal kick in the 8th minute of the first half and the game was 0-0. The best punishment? Made to play extra almost quarter of an hour when you were already down 1- 5. Just brilliant.
The Quakes were threatening to score a 6th or 7th. A 7-1 can get you fired so I can see why Estevez decided to cut his losses. In Austiin’s defense I think they are missing 3-4 key players..
I was yelling at the TV after the 4th goal to take out Tsakiris. Why would Arena risk keeping him on the pitch in a blowout?
One of our regular STH neighbors was annoyed at the time wasting from Austin, so he started timing the waste in the 2nd half including really long throw-in and goal kick delays. Plus, of course, the PK and goal celebrations. He measured 17 minutes of wasted time so we were not surprised to see 14 minutes.
Big shout out to Paul Marie. Three assists as a substitute RB. He is the last one from the Wondo and Salinas era. With next to no playing minute last season, I thought we would never see him play again.
