Re: San Jose - Columbus (Saturday, 9/7) thread Well...I wouldn't call two assists tonite insignificant.
Congrats guys, we are now ready for the rumble for all the marbles in mls (well all the supporters shield marbles). Can't wait until next saturday.
San Jose - Columbus (Saturday, 9/7) thread I found about the assists after that post and then posted this.
4-3, overtime win for the Quakes!       Joe Cannon should never have let that second goal in, and Landon Donovan dribbled a second too long in his one clear chance to score - but as the San Francisco 49ers attested to last Thursday, an ugly win is still a win!       And a +14k crowd at the game... WOW!       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Couple of things. 1. What is it about Landon Donovan that in each and every game he gets fouled consistently but NEVER gets the call? 2. Pertaining to #1. Isn't a takedown from behind in the box a red card and a penalty kick? 3. Thank you to the greater powers that be, whatever they may be, that the QUAKES won tonite!!!! 4. The crowd at Spartan tonite was amazing, simply amazing, but I hated waiting in line for my beer! 5. GREAT game from the first minute. Loads of excitement and energy! 6. *Important* Guy sitting a couple of people over from me got the "bird" from Dunseth! Woo Hoo!! Hey, are you on BS? And, in response to an earlier post. Richard Mulrooney a "bad boy?" tee he he YAY! Richard! You're beginning to gain an image!!!!
Amazing game, just got home. First off, big thanks to radiogal for the tape of the DC game! What a crowd! After Dallas' small crowd on wednesday I had reduced my expectations, but when I had to struggle for parking despite arriving early I knew something was up. They all got treated to quite a game too, maybe the most intense of the year (figures it wouldn't be on TV). Ekelund's goal was a candidate for goal of the year. On a free kick from 30-35 yards, Mulrooney just scoops the ball straight up in the air, and Ekelund volleys it into the upper 90. So many close chances too. At several points it looked like Quakes were headed for a blowout but the Crew hung around and eventually Quakes seemed to run out of gas a bit. Quakes had some of their best passing sequences of the year. In the first 20 minutes they were running circles around the Crew. On the other hand, the Quakes were getting killed by Crew crosses. Apparently nobody told the Quakes that Freddie Garcia subbed in because he was constantly wide open on the wing or in front of goal. Buddle was huge too, despite his flukey first goal. For a guy that young and that big, he has a lot of skill and poise. Cunningham was extremely dangerous on the ball. McBride must have had 20 midair collisions. If Dayak doesn't tough it out and go 90 (95 actually) after what looked like a painful groin aggravation, I don't know how this game turns out. Donovan and Graziani have opposite games. Donovan is all over the place and super dangerous, yet can't get the ball in the net. Graziani is mostly invisible but comes up huge twice. Blowing that breakaway isn't going to help Donovan's confidence. It looked like as he rounded the keeper he just fell on him, dunno. It seemed like a good no-call. The second breakaway looked like a sure red card. How can he give a yellow when Donovan is obviously past the last defender? Ekelund and Mulrooney were awesome.
San Jose - Columbus (Saturday, 9/7) thread Maybe Graz just doesn't have to try. You know like he KNOWS when something's gonna happen. Maybe LD's still a little off. Dunno.
Re: Re: San Jose - Columbus (Saturday, 9/7) thread       The way the Crew played, I wouldn't be surprised.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
