Soccer Spin - Quakes Can't Overcome Injuries this Time www.soccerspin.com Quotes from Agoos, Alvarez, Bocanegra and Yallop
One thing I was anxious to see was the relative placement and size of articles in the Merc detailing the two local events...Earthquakes and SabreCats playoff game. On first glance it looks like they got fairly equal coverage -- both items on page 1 below the fold, fairly equal on column inches. What's not equal is the reported attendance figures (and maybe if I bury the attendance discussion here the trolls won't find it). Where we announced 7,410 (a number many believe is being soft-pedaled), the SabreCats announced more than 10K. I have friends who worked at that game and that 10K couldn't have been more made up if it were fabricated by Lynne Meterperel herself. I have it on good authority that the real turnstile count was between 5-7,000 and that we probably outdrew them head-to-head. So enough about how the SaberCats advertise lavishly -- it obviously doesn't help them much.
Kissing Merc ass might not help them at the gates, but it certainly gets them MUCH Better coverage than that provided the quakes!
Huh? The game coverage looked fairly equal to me...all weekend long. And AFL doesn't have its own Arena Football page on Wednesdays. Methinks you look with jaundiced eye.
I also know somebody who works for the sabercats and they always have fun guessing how much the attendence is going to be inflated. it's sort of a over/under bet they have going.
