Yeah Pepe Pinton said on the Once In a lifetime documentary about the Cosmos that he went down with the ship after they folded. Then he said he is still there at the bottom of the ship. Basically, he hung on to the name and logo and made money off the deal after he sold it to Paul Kemsley in 2010. After 25 years, the Cosmos names I'm sure was pretty profitable for Pinton and it was actually pretty smart of him to hang on to everything that was Cosmos related.
that part is in that video clip that I added - Pepe was sitting in an office w/ the Cosmos logo on the door
Apparently $2M according to the NY Post, funny looking at some of these stories today: "When I first came into the league I was approached with the opportunity to buy the Cosmos name,’’ Garber said. “I remember telling Pepe Pinton I don’t understand why we would pay for that name; I don’t think anybody cares about that today. But the owners of the new Cosmos logo proved people do care about the past and about the nostalgia and history of the Cosmos.’’ Pinton eventually sold that brand for $2 million to a group led by Paul Kemsley (Tottenham’s former vice chairman), who has since brought back Pelé as honorary president with Giorgio Chinaglia, Eric Cantona and Cobi Jones in the front office. And these new Cosmos have the same knack for hype in their second incarnation as they did in their first." http://nypost.com/2011/03/11/the-cosmos-mets-mls/
Not bad. Its not like its a house or a classic car. All he had was the name, logo, maybe some old uniforms , records, and trophies. Making $2 million after 25 years for doing nothing is pretty easy money I'd say.
Oh, I guess not ... San Francisco Deltas fold after winning title in inaugural season https://t.co/4prJv4M015 via @mercnews— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) November 15, 2017 The Deltas have folded. . . . I TOLD YOU SO!
"“It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come in less than three years,” wrote Ricardo Stanford-Geromel, the Deltas’ director of community relations No, it isn't. I hope the players and staff find jobs.
You mean with a championship team it wasn’t SUPER EASY TO FIND A BUYER? I mean, it’s A READY-MADE WINNING TEAM! I was told they should not have a problem finding a buyer, because, again, IT IS A READY-MADE WINNING TEAM. Who would not want to buy such a valuable asset? Just remarkable.
As did I. Well it's been fun prognosticating about this mess of a franchise. See you all next time some rich guy with more money than sense decides to wade into San Francisco minor league sports...
I'm not gonna lie. There are times I would love to know the real age/profile of the people posting. This is one. I'm not certian if he was just a simple troll, or just that dumb.
YOUR San Jose Mercury News are liars. Get the facts straight..... @mercnews @dmahno I didn't say that the Deltas folded.I said that my deltas email will no longer be working, as I don't work there anymore.— RicoGeromel (@ricogeromel) November 16, 2017
Here's a riddle for you. A certain "team" is so "concerned" about the SF Deltas, they put out a tweet directed at them. Why would they be doing that? @sfdeltas pic.twitter.com/oo0kaKUceD— Fort Lauderdale Strikers FC (@FTLStrikers) November 16, 2017
especially when there were other people throwing straight gank at you - I am just a messenger - do you have more facts to prove the franchise hasn't folded? If so, let us in on this tidbit of news
