I heard that Albion had a pretty promising meeting at the convention in Philadelphia with Peter Wilt's NISA people. What that means in the face of 1904 FC and SoccerCity is anyone's guess though.

For the minor league teams I don' think they should take into account what is happening with MLS. For the most part the minor league teams are focusing on niche markets (1904 north county and Albion is supposedly southbay). I think if they focus on that then they should be good to go.

I've heard South Bay too but I've also seen all of their youth teams practice in OB at Robb field.

I like the shortening of the name but I wish they had gone with Albion FC so they could shorten it to AFC San Diego. AFC is something that some euro teams have in their name for Association football club but can also mean Albion football club as well as the nickname of the city Americas Finest City. Missed marketing opportunity IMO.

Hopefully they look for stadiums in the southbay and not too centrally.

Also I hope they go USL D3 and not D2, at least to start.

At this point I hope they go central. 1904 seems stalled and the MLS bid is all but dead (just needs to be confirmed in November when the competing ballot measures kill one another).

Not a fan of the boring and plain Logo, nice however that the name now includes San Diego.
I hope too, they go with USL, regardless at which level they start.

Can't say how realistic they are, but MLS SD's chances are not dead yet until the November vote happens.
Still hope SoccerCity and SDSU either find the logical compromise on their own or get forced to do so by government or other circumstances.

Well that will be the only thing that saves either of them in November. If two separate ballot measures go on the ballot, they’ll both lose as they’re already cannibalizing each other.

The sports deck is horrible in terms of attendance. I think it can only accommodate 2-3K people and most of that is SRO.

Much rather they try and get Torero stadium especially if the 1904 guys are out of it.

Sports Deck has slightly better accessibility, even if smaller than Torero. Probably cheaper to rent too. whether it will work depends on what league and how many people ASC intends to draw. 2k I’d imagine is a huge bump from what they draw now.

I would say San Diego should just go with NASL, and they can have a full league with NY Cosmos, Jacksonville, San Diego, Miami and maybe an expansion team in Puerto Rico. Yeah that would be a great 5 team league with a bright future!

Recently the USL has filed for trademarks for USL Championship, USL League One, USL League Two and USL Youth. It appears the the USL is moving towards a EPL style league naming convention. With this in mind, I believe the USSF D2 league will be called USL Championship and USL-D3 will be USL League One. Therefore, San Diego 1940 FC will be joining the USL Championship.

Assuming they join D2 (which admittedly seems likely).

ASC SD and 1904? Ironic if it happens in USL seeing as both teams were looking at doing so in NASL a year or so ago.

Actually I think Div2 will be League One, Div 3 will be League Two and the Championship will be the Cup between League One, Two and Youth (which I assume would be PDL)

Until they start using new names the leagues will be USL and USL D3 to me.

Their Super Y League is rebranding to USL Youth, not the PDL.
