Heck, even good jerseys, similar to Racing Louisville.

Breakers sounds good, but I'm wondering if the property of the defunct Boston Breakers still exists legally.

ETA: Oops, the first comment was for @cpthomas.

Good question. Since it’s gone some other team should take the Breakers name. Should apply what San Diego is known for.

Hopefully maybe they do a name contest and whittle it down by fans.

If NWSL introduce another team in TX that would definitely be their name. The Texas Heat!

Good way to get sued. SDCC has been suing anyone using the Comic-Con name lately. And the courts sided with them that it really is their mark and not a generic term.

I checked the trademark database, regarding the "Breakers" name. It appears that the new USFL owns the trademark for the "Boston Breakers", the "New Orleans Breakers" and the 'Portland Breakers". Since their trademarks deal with American Football, I believe the "San Diego Breakers" for women's soccer would be be okay, especially if they added "SC" (Soccer Club) to the name.

Also don't get the singular "Wave". Why not Waves? Odd choice.

In theory, I actually like it how it is; each player part of one whole. However, when news of the name first broke on Instagram, literally no one got it right. Everybody that posted insisted on calling the team the Waves. This is going to be kind of irritating.

San Diego sonic booms would have been better. They are right next to a large military base.

Was there a reported attendance # for the Waves' opener?

I only heard comments in the 5,000+ range, but this is far from official.
