Not sure if it means anything... but the Flash website, sandiegoflashsoccer.com is gone. It sure is looking like Clent's team is gone too without him around driving them.

that really would be such a shame...I kept looking for a copy of his obit, but I was never able to find it. Guess that we'll know more VERY shortly:

Well that's a good sign. Though I imagine they were already committed to 2015. Real question will be if they exist beyond this season.

Apparently they do, but I'm told FC Force and Boca are toast.

Things are a bit scant out west.

Well we knew Boca/iCon was likely toast after the debacle at the beginning of last season. And not surprised Force died. They were a migratory team last year in the middle of nowhere pretty far removed from the rest of the division and their website has been down for a while.

All in all the Southwest and Northwest conferences are looking a bit thin this year. The NW so much so they're going to have to reorg the west. Assuming the NorCal teams will want to travel to the Pacific NW or more new teams don't come in to salvage it.

That was a big to-do. They were supposed to play somewhere in San Diego County, but territorial rights got invoked and they ended up in...hell, Dateland or some place in the middle of nowhere, like you said. It was a whole legal skirmish.

And, yeah, the west is going to need some work. And I don't think the NPSL is going to get to the 150 teams at least one bright boy predicted they'd get to by next year.

Not sure the best place for this but I was reading a recent article about San Diego MLS efforts and on the comments a Flash employee claims they have new ownership, they are rebranding and (get this) building a new 10k stadium east of Petco in the Golden Hills area.

Here's the article (look at the comments section):
    http://www.cbs8.com/story/29869437/kicking-around-the-idea-of-bringing-pro-soccer-to-san-diego

The employee is David Frerker and after checking Twitter seems like he legitimately works for the Flash.

Anyone else heard anything to confirm this?

I will check with people I know there. Obviously, we have other posters from there.

I would reserve judgment until I hear who this owner is who can build a stadium in San Diego very simply.

I forgot who the new owner is but when I saw who it was I didn't recognize his name so not sure how much clout or money he has.

If it's who I was told it likely is, they have many talents and abilities, but the wherewithal to make a stadium appear quickly and pay for it are not among them.

Well, I was not terribly familiar with the late Mr. Alexander, so it would be an unfair comparison. I do know that if it's the guy I've been told it may be, they have far more experience with the actual business side of soccer and making things actually happen. Stadiums - especially in California - are hard to make happen no matter what, though.

Still, as we sit here, the erstwhile Flash are an NPSL team. Until we get more information, it's probably safe to take the under on all these things.

Problem is he sounds like so many of the minor league sorry guys out there. Talks big, big plans, not much real information.

With minor league soccer taking the under is standard procedure unless otherwise noted I'd say. That said from what Frerker is saying regarding their "stadium" plans, they sound pretty modest. So much so that they wouldn't even be subject to CEQA according to him. In that case I think it's safe to assume that MLS is not on their radar but rather something equally modest league wise even if they were to move up from NPSL (ie: USL or NPSL). The former now being an option I'd suspect since Clent is out of the picture. Clent was a passionate guy, but he also had a bad history with USL which seemed to prevent him from talking with them on top of any financial shortfalls.

My intention of bringing this up was only in the context of the Flash still being around, it wasn't to fuel any pro-MLS aspirations. It does seem conceivable they will survive, albeit not as the Flash and maybe not in the NPSL but maybe the PDL, with plans for pro some time down the line.

    San Diego needs it.

Why not the Flash? I'm pretty sure they will keep the name, besides the Soccer's it's on of the few names that have been associated with SD soccer for quite a while.
