I know that was a big issue back in 2010 with the NuRock acquisition of the USL for the initial NASL to be formed but do those same gripes still apply for the clubs or are does it not matter anymore? I mean that was 7-8 years ago....
Won’t dull the pain of the wait for 1904FC (that may never come) but the Xolos are playing Toronto FC at Torero Stadium on January 31 at 6pm. Tickets available here. It was a great time last time they visited.
SD in NASL would have faced a lot of expensive flying, as only rivals would have been SF (folded) OC (not in yet), after that, flying to ED (out) would have been expensive. - Join USL and could possibly bus to LAG2, OC,PHX,LV, FRS at least. That saves a lot of money and hopefully you would have started to get traveling fans to come to SD. SD as "Americas Finest City" is a good attraction itself for a vacation and work in a soccer game would have made it great. Even the other teams in the west SEA<PDX<SLC<RENO<SAC are relatively close short flights and mainly in the same time zone as well. Beats always flying cross country.
Looks like they are going the USL route The #NASL won't be playing in 2018, if ever again. I'm told the San Diego expansion ownership group including Demba Ba and Eden Hazard will be joining the #USL in 2019. https://t.co/MUjUuJkniV— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) February 27, 2018

Just wondering if anyone has seen an official announcement from USL welcoming them as a 2019 expansion club?

These still are not an official announcement. Also they still are not listed on the USL website as an expansion club for 2019.
1904 hasn't been accepted into USL. Their announcement from a few months back was just that they are in talks with the league.
You mean NY Cosmos, Jacksonville Armada, and Miami FC? Those teams are almost certainly not going to the USL. Puerto Rico FC? Maybe, I guess, eventually.
The Cosmos name has to be worth something. Pepe Pinton I believe made over $2 million for their name and logo and it was dormant for 25 years.
