I guess its good they at least have a target audience. Can't say the same for the other two California teams.
OK, I have to retract my previous statement. I honestly thought 1904 was the City of SD founding date. Haven't been paying attention; its real meaning is duuuummmmbbbb
UT ran another article on the name http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com...iego-soccer-anchorman-20171018-htmlstory.html Seems reaction is mixed. And many seem to think it’s an Anchorman reference more than anything else. At the very least it’s getting them press coverage.
You can tell that the PR/Marketing company that came up with the name have lots of people in their 30's who grew up with pagers
When you tried to spell things out you either went the simple replacement way (A=1 z=26) or the what does the number look like way (A=4 B=8 S=5)
We did a similar thing in grade school with our calculators. Of course, we pretty much focused on 80085.
Meh call me an old fart (room yells old fart) but hate the name. Although not sure there are many names people like. My problem is it's to much like a year that would have some relevance, but it isn't. So it's like the Real, or United's. Using the names because they sound soccer related, but the terms don't actually mean anything here. But I am sure any name they came up with would have people bitching. Don't mind the video, but just because I think I can see myself in it. Got a little confused about the Eiffel Tower until I remembered Demba Ba was part of the ownership group.
Stadium plans announced officially. http://www.10news.com/sports/1904-football-club-announces-oceanside-stadium-plan One year at USD then they move into this in Oceanside.
Typo aside, this info about SD 1904 and the rest of NASL from the injunction hearing today doesn’t bode well. NASL is down 3 teams goin into 2018, neither new California team has the financial means to meet standards, and none of the NPSL teams that want to move up have the financial means to survive. At Sep 2017 app, NCFC, Deltas, & Eddies were said to be out. Cal United & 1908FC owner's were not stated as qualifying USSF finanical req's— Steve Hamlin (@stevehamlin19) October 31, 2017
I'm a little surprised to hear this... Eden Hazard is worth $100 million by himself. And I'm pretty sure Pete Capriotti is worth at least $20 million. Maybe I'm wrong but the guy with more than 100 Taco Bell and Pieology franchises to his name should be worth at least that much. Just doesn't sound right.
Maybe it’s a function of who the majority owners actually are. I mean the players in these situations usually own a very small percentage of the team.
Well, it seems we won’t get to see the terribly named SD team play, as NASL isn’t sanctioned as any kind of league for 2018 as of now + the OG didn’t want USL...
Well let’s not call it yet. NISA may be an option. Plus it’s not clear why USL didn’t happen since the 1904 ownership’s only started reason seems a gross misunderstanding of USL.
The UT ran an update yesterday on 1904FC... http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/sd-sp-1904-nasl-appeal-20171212-story.html Basically still in limbo until the NASL appeal fails or is granted as we expected. Only good news is they maintain they still want to play even if NASL dies this week, which they reiterate will happen if the appeal is denied.
Hopefully the 1904 Group have some brain cells... If they are serious about Pro Soccer in the SD/Oceanside area it's time to join USL too, whether that's 2018 or 2019.
Agreed. It’s clear NASL is done for. They’ve got 3 teams left (maybe 4 if PR survives somehow). Cal United hasn’t been seen since they announced their venue. And the idea of playing in NISA is antithetical to what the 1904 ownership have been saying they need (namely as high level team as possible in D2). Never mind NISA is vaporware at this point and heavily east coast based.
They might not start til 2019 now. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/sd-sp-1904fc-nasl-season-20180107-story.html
Doesn’t seem like might in there. They’re putting off til 2019. And aiming to start in Oceanside at the new stadium. Also of note NASL moving to a winter schedule if they survive from August to Spring.
Perhaps 1904 FC should consider the same possible path as the Cosmos are considering with a women's team in the NWSL. http://midfieldpress.com/2018/01/09...-path-back-to-world-class-status-is-the-nwsl/
