Like the name Aztex (Good Lord )??? But then again gotta "Keep Austin Weird"! Can't wait for this rivalry. Best of luck, Alejo and again thanks for your encouragement throughout this thread.
As long as we have a subforum within that for Crocketteers...San Antonio... I've discussed with fellow crocketteers and we need a forum to discuss various things. We figured creating our own forum on our site would not be the route we want to take at the moment. A BigSoccer hosted forum would allow us to reach out to potential new members.
From my latest blog: MLS To San Antonio: Version 2.0? CagedMonky, let me know what you think about it.
Just sent you an email. I'll say thanks again for the plug to our site and mention of our group. Also I was in Austin this past weekend, driving to IKEA and noticed the nice Aztex billboards. For a second I felt a little jealous.
http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/SA_could_see_soccer_for_price_of_a_stadium.html SA could see USL 1 team...
http://nativeaztexan.blogspot.com/2009/04/soccer-update-from-alamo-city.html Anyone think that Alamo Stadium would be ideal place (temporary) for a pro team? What's the ideal place for it? Northeast (BAC)? Cibolo?
The problem with Alamo Stadium is it is owned by San Antonio ISD. Therefore the selling of beer and beer sponsorships is forbidden.
I posted this comment on the Texas Soccer Blog above. http://www.bestschools2020.com/ Former Mayor Ed Garza is running for SAISD District 7. With his love for soccer maybe he can make SAISD operated Alamo Stadium the primary option. I believe Northeast ISD is building a massive and impressive stadium (full bowl from the looks of it) off of Wurzbach Parkway... North San Antonio...
One of these days I'll see if I can swing by the NEISD stadium that is being constructed and snap some pics.
http://www.neisd.net/pr/news/NEISD_StadiumName_08.html "Heroes Stadium will be located on 58 acres at the old Longhorn Quarry at Thousand Oaks and Wurzbach Parkway. The athletic facility will include the football stadium and soccer field with track, discus and shot-put rings. Designed to seat more than 11,000 spectators, the new stadium will be complete with offices, ticket booth, locker rooms, concession stands and public restrooms. The district also plans to include other facilities at the site, such as a new baseball field, but will need to pass bond packages to fund the construction." Aerial sketch: http://www.5atexasfootball.com/forum/vB/showthread.php?t=41560&page=1 Photos of construction: http://www.5atexasfootball.com/forum/vB/showthread.php?t=41560&page=2 I still think Alamo Stadium close to Downtown with awesome views and in a beautiful area beats this.
Well the Aztex are playing at an AISD stadium and beer is not served there. So it sucks for beer lovers like myself to deal with issues with school districts. But at least pro soccer here is better than no pro soccer at all. Let's hope that Ed Garza gets elected. With him along with Austin City Council member Mike Martinez maybe they can persuade others to get this momentium going.
the problem with alamo stadium is that the field is to small for a soccer pitch. the football field barely fits in between the track if you look at pics of the stadium. the field and track were laid out back in 2005 if im not mistaken. otherwise this stadium would be great in my opinion
We are at 20 "members" who comprise Crocketteers. Not too shabby with little to no marketing/adv. Word of mouth will prevail.
I sure hope San Antonio gets a team, I would love to go there to watch a Charleston Battery v San Antonio match. The city looks beautiful just like Charleston . Keep growing in numbers, best of luck to ya.
that Alamo Stadium picture is awesome. I think it would be perfect for our USL (or DC's relocated MLS) franchise.
OMG I remmember that friggin thing. My grandpa, R.I.P, took me there to see a SA Rough Riders game when I was like 4. Anyway whats this about the stadium not being big enough for proper football??
Just joined: Great idea guys! I was thinking about how to start postHardberger soccer movement in SA and then I found this site. I agree Alamo stadium would be a nice venue. As for Alamodome, dont know if the cost to operate would out weigh the income, not at first anyways. Love seeing the Shiner logo. Shiner, soccer, san antonio, awesome. We need Crocketteer shirts. writer by trade, let me know if I can help.
