It's typical of Italian teams. Lose the easy matches, win the hard ones.

Good news: Serie A starts this weekend and Sampdoria plays Milan

Bad news: I'll have to watch a live stream on the internet because nobody will show on Australian TV, not even on pay TV

Actually I've heard recently that Rai signed a new deal and there will be some Serie A matches. I'll probably get Rai back next week.

The defence was solid throughout the Milan match. Hopefully the guys can maintain the form against Siena.

    FORZA DORIA!

Sampdoria's winning streak was broken by Torino in a 1-1 draw. Gillet had a great game for Toro, making some vital saves at the end.

Aside from Gillet, Toro was a disgrace. With all their holding and pushing, the Toro players must have thought that they were playing rugby. Calvarese was a horrible ref and he must have left his red card at home.

As rough as Toro was, not having Poli available and Eder not starting didn't help. We had the possession but we lacked someone who could make a great final pass or someone who can make something out of nothing.

We have lost our last two Serie A matches but we face Parma next, who aren't firing at all. Gastaldello is a loss in defence and Poli is still injured. Maresca and Lopez need to be in top form though, even against this Parma team.

Good news: Poli will be back from injury

Bad news: Del Neri is at Genoa. Just plain wrong

feel bad for samp, were the better team and up 1-0 , there was contact in the box but it was very soft for a penalty and the red card was unnecessary which helped inter score 3 in a row

I heard about that. On Australian TV, they were showing Juve v Bologna.

Despite the bad call, I still think Ferrara's tactics are questionable. Injuries and suspensions have hurt us but he is playing some players out of position in the 4-3-3. After a great start to the season, everything is falling apart. Even if he doesn't get sacked before January, Ferrara needs to look at better options in attack if he really wants to stick to a 4-3-3 formation.

I'd prefer to use the 3-5-2 formation:

    ------------------------------- Romero

    ---------------- Berardi --- Gastadello --- Costa

De Silvestri --- Obiang --- Maresca --- Poli --- Estigarribia

    ------------------------ Maxi Lopez ---- Eder

Il Ciuccio another 3 in the back

well samp played well in the first half, composed and calm and only giving away little
second half and inter pressed more and samp started to give away even before the pk
tiossone and munari were pretty good in mid, and eder a constant threat and maxi added something extra when introduced

i thought they played a 4-3-3? I really want to know what this means for our league because a back 3 is great when you have a crap D....and wing backs who can run.

I had written up my personal preference earlier. Sampdoria do use the 4-3-3 formation. This was the line-up against Inter:

    -------------------- Romero

    Berardi --- Gastaldello --- Rossini --- Costa

    -------- Munari --- Tissone --- Poli

    ---- Estigarribia --- Soriano ---- Eder

I think the 3-5-2 formation suits Italian teams. I think most Italian teams lack the wide forwards/wingers to use the 4-3-3 formation and Italian sides play narrow. The wing-backs can get enough width and the rest can pack the centre. It's better than the 4-3-1-2, which is too narrow and the full-backs have to work harder.

The 3-5-2 can backfire in Europe, especially if an Italian team faces a team with world-class wingers and if they can't deal with crosses.

Ferrara had a row with a fan and he also has an ultimatum:

Iachini is likely to return. He hasn't got the best record in the Serie A but he brought us back and he sets out the team to suit the characteristics of the players. The 4-3-3 with a false #9 isn't working for us.

Sampdoria has lost its last seven matches under Ciro Ferrara. Surely he should get the boot!

Dybala and Ilicic played well for Palermo though in the 2-0 win. Romero saved Samp from a more humiliating loss.

We won the Derby della Lanterna 3-1! Poli scored first, Bovo scored an own goal, Immobile pulled one back and Icardi sealed the result.

Heartening result, but Ciro should still be sacked.
He showed no talent for management at Juve and none with us either.

If the derby result is a one-off, then he should be sacked.
