Players like Roldan and Zavaleta are the kind of quality players we should be striving for, but aside from Gil Hurtado and Romero, we just don’t have many of them available. Most of the expats currently play in USL or lower (aim higher, people!!), and even though they’re not the magic solution, Hugo bringing in all these expats has arguably made a positive impact on our team in terms of gaining the depth we so desperately needed.

I’d like to think that, thanks to Roldan and Zavaleta switching over, the rest were enticed to follow suit. Future players of similar quality would be encouraged to choose Selecta over USMNT.

Tbf the Dynamo have always been a cheap AF when it comes to spending. People would be okay with it if they would replenish the roster with talent from the academy but they don’t have a good track record in that dept. something Dallas excels at. Which is surprising we haven’t found some young talent playing for the FC Dallas youth academies especially with are people being all over Texas.

I wish our guys would take a shot abroad even if it’s for a second division euro club we see how some of the yanks make it why can’t our guys?

Great move. Don’t like San Jose in the slightest as an organization and feel that philly has better youth system and turnout anyways.

I wonder how much of it is mentality and how much is agents playing a role.
We talked about Lester Blanco always getting these opportunities to play abroad and getting good shots. Not many of our players even have trials. All i have to think about is Oscar Ceren and how he went from ‘having a team in Spain for sure’ to ‘not even having tryouts and looking for some’.

Remember Orellana had a chance at a trial over in Switzerland but Alianza nipped it in the bud. It led to Pohl calling Pajaro a liar and that no such inquiry was made by St. Gallen (iirc) until he posted the paperwork.

Junior Burgos had trials in Colombia, Chile and Germany, yet he could never succeed in a level above NASL or USL.

It was the same story for Dustin Corea early in his career too.

Yes, very true. It was a topic here too about how these players are being mistreated by the club to not let them go abroad. Wonder if any more have had a chance and that’s happened recently.

but there we go again. ONE player, and a US native at that (i know he was born in ES but he grew up in the US right?)
It all comes down again too things in our soccer that is broken. It’s not just the league or feds, but goes to a point where we can’t even get good representation it seems. No way chicho, Tamacas, Larin can’t get into better clubs (i know Tamacas got screwed over, hopefully he gets another chance soon).

Dustin is an odd case because he had the chops to stick in Europe his very short stint in Sweden looked to be good but he abruptly left.

I think the biggest weakness is home sickness. We saw it with Turcios and Rafa Burgos who one had a very promising career in Finland while the other looked to be in a somewhat steady line in Hungary. Then in what we saw as an odd move one would go back to El Salvador a season after winning the Finnish Cup while the other went to Minnesota of all places then went back home.

That’s why I have to give it to Lester he’s been all over and really tries to stick around in said country despite unfortunately never having the best of luck for the NT.

Hopefully this new generation of players has better mentality/ability to handle being away from home more and can play abroad longer and create better opportunities

The most decorated player in our history at this point correct? Also Hugo should call him up honestly.

Agreed he should defiantly called him up. He stated he didn't call him up because he had too many players in that position but with playing 3 games in 6 days having depth is very important players will be gassed by third game

Agreed, look at Tamacas he barely gets a break now and he's injured. There has to be more options.

    A few notes.
1)First off Bonilla continues to score.

Sucks he couldn’t get called up due to restrictions. If everything goes as planned he should be available for the November match dates.

2)Also congrats to Punyed he played the entire game as Vikingur won 3-0 and advance to the Cup Finals. He will be making the trip to El Salvador on Sunday.

3)Enrico played the first half in a 2-0 loss to Roda yesterday most he did was get a yellow :/.

    4) One thing I didn’t post earlier this week is that Zavaleta didn’t play the midweek game due to being in concussion protocol. Supposedly he should be good to go this weekend something to keep and eye on since our back line is beat up at the moment.

The rest of the abroad guys are playing today.

Larin provided the assist in today’s draw. Meanwhile Ceren had an awful time that he was subbed out early after a bad turnover which led to a pk.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Houston let go of Ceren end of the season. I think he has the quality to stay in MLS but don’t see many teams sticking their neck out for him…

I feel like Justin Portillo needs to move somewhere else too. Dude has played bugger all minutes with RSL.

Given his age (29) his only real options is either an expansion side that will take a chance with him or USL so I think it’s safe to say that he won’t get a chance with the NT as a serious option.

Hopefully he can stay on fire for when we finally can call him up.

Yes, he’s probably our best option and would be an extreme welcome for the November games
