quoting MLS news today: "I'm not an easy coach to play for," said Nowak. "I demand a lot and so does John. The players know I demand hard work. They'll do it. I've spoken to them and they're ready to play." They sure are. Just ask them. "I've heard so many great things about Peter Nowak," said Union midfielder Shea Salinas. "He expects you to be in great shape and he expects you to play well and to play hard. That's how it's supposed to be." maybe im reading too much into this, i get the feeling shea didnt get this vibe in Quakeland. If so, I am really wondering why aren't we signing Real Salt Lakes fitness coach?
We aren't signing RSL's fitness coach, or any fitness coach, or a new head coach, or a new GM because we are freaking stupid! Sorry, but that's just the bottom line. I'm sure that Shea will find Philly a much more competitive and hardworking environment than San José. I expect him to get more support and direction from his new coaches too, and this will accelerate his growth and development. We need a much better work ethic in Quakesland, and we need a coaching staff that will push the players and themselves. But instead we are weak and uninspired. I wish Shea all the luck in the world. I'm sure he will become a much better player. Our loss. go quakes - Mark
We wouldn't want to cause any stress, worry, angst, annoyance or otherwise bother our players now, would we? They might not like it.
Do we really have to do this every time a player moves to another team and says something favorable about their new club? What is a player supposed to say in that position? "This organization is the best, the coach really has his squad organized, the fans of _______ are the best, the city is beautiful, blah. . .blah. . .frigin' blah." He's moved on and he needs to make good in his new situation. It's not personal and it's about us anymore.
This is a different thing, I think, not the James Riley fruit basket thing. The question (premise of the thread) was more about whether or not Salinas was implying anything about how Frank and Co. are in terms of being demanding enough about being in shape, etc. I don't think Salinas meant anything by the comment as it relates to his former team. It was more about Nowak, and sort of an "OK, bring it on". I don't see Salinas as a lazy player at all in terms of getting fit and being demanding of himself, so I don't think he'll have a problem with Nowak in that regard.
You are reading too much into the statement. I see no implication or reference to the Quakes. Just stating the facts...
I understood the premise, and agree that Salinas didn't mean anything toward his former team. Reading the quote in context, it is probably responding to a question about his new coaches hard workouts. He's saying just what he is supposed to. My point is the same. We have a tendency to take out of context quotes from former players and make them into statements about us. I was thinking more of the 2005 move, Ching's eventual flattery of his new fans in Houston, and the ensuing indignation. Once they're gone, it's about their new situation, and it should be.
Well, to be fair 760Epicenter wrote that "maybe I'm reading too much into this", and, yeah, there probably is a "reading too much into it" there. But I don't see any "indignation". These are the dog days, Krud. We're scraping for stuff to talk about.
True on both counts. I don't see indignation here either, just a little of that self-loathing that makes us Quakes fans so much fun to pick at.
Bigsoccer came up for me in German earlier today. It was weird. On the top page your name was von krudmonk. Cracked me up.
My sentiment exactly. We have too many people who consider themselves experts in reading between lines.
good i wasnt hallucinating! the thread menu was completely in german! as for the quote, it doesnt bother me that salinas think so, i just think worried to think that san jose's bigsoccer board has made me someone who reads between the lines. now, FO, if youre reading this, go sign Diego Chaves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG OH NO EFF THAT!!!!!1111!!!!!oneoneoneone!!!! maybe he found the local cheese steak stand. pretty damn good.
Yeah, doesn't mean anything. Kei Kamara talked a bunch of shit. Other than that, I can't really think of a player who has really dissed the Quakes since leaving recently.
Pineapple-head was talking shit about Houston also. I agreed with you Sko, almost no one talks bad after leaving the team, unless it's taken out of context.
I think you're reading too much into it. If anything he's just complimenting the system they have in Philly for the Philly press. It's not a comment on SJ and indeed would not fit with Shea. He's never said anything negative about SJ.
