Actually, now that I look, this could be the big setup for the dominoes to fall in Chicago.

Yeah, I agree. I'm guessing we'll end up with the #2 or #5 pick out of the deal. Maybe #1, but I doubt it, based on who's probably going.

I was thinking the same thing, that United and Fire will be next up. And just think- you guys won't be getting ABMOD!

I posted this on one of the main MLS forums, but it looks like Wolff to DC is no longer hot as a rumor (although we may still have a deal pending with them). So the two likely suitors, or at least rumored suitors, are NY and KC. Seeing as how we reluctantly gave Diego Gutierrez to the Wizards last year, what are the odds we get our salary cap situation resolved enough to take him back? Maybe not right away, but as a "future considerations" clause in the event DMB flies to Europe in January? Wolff and somebody else for a first-round pick and future considerations?

    Idle speculation is FUN!

Help me here. As near as I can make out, the united-metros trade essentially caps out the metros, or at least makes it so that they can't add much in salary unless they trade much, which would then preclude Wolff to metros in for the purpose of dumping salary. Is that right? seems like the teams with cap space at the moment are United and Rapids, though I can't tell about KC (probably they have space.)

Look for Haig's post on the MLS News boards where he guesses at the Metros' salary situation. They may still have some room, but it's getting tight, so Wolff may not be an option at a league max salary. A lot of that may depend on Marcelo Balboa. And everyone has cap problems, it's just a matter of how they might be able to deal with them.

Thanks. With Haig's estimates (which include an 85K salary for Balboa, an optimistic estimate, but possible) they have a 1.125M cap figure. Add to that: Pope and Moreno, both at league max (270K each- and they make well over that in reality) and Williams, who supposedly will take a cut on his 100K salary- let's say to 50K) that puts them at 1.715M, which basically means they can no longer absorb other teams' salaries.

    Stoitchkov

In !Exito! today there is an article which says that it's likely that Stoitchkov will become a player- coach for United.

I think that Stoichkov goes to coach somewhere (I was think that he could be player/coach here, but DCU would work too).

Wolff gets traded -- we don't need Wolff, Razov and Faria.

Beasley leaves to go to Europe.

We use the salary moves from those 3, the allocation we'd get from losing Beas and the SI spot vacated by Stoichkov to sign 2 solid players -- both in the midfield -- one attacking and one wing.

If we strade or cut Daniv, we could pick up TWO quality SI's.

That along with getting the 2nd or 5th pick and we'd be able to pick up one or two youngsters in the draft and we'd be pretty solid.

I wonder what the discussion between Hristo and Hudson would sound like :=)

Piggybacking off of Chris Bergin's info on DC getting a "name" player, somebody on the United boards speculated a three-way deal with Wolff going to KC, Matt McKeon going to DC, and a first-round pick going to the Fire. That's kind of interesting. And then there's the Hristo/Dema thing, but that's got it's own thread.

And count me in on wanting to hear the conversations between Ray and Hristo. Most quotable team ever!
