salary cap cut down date 1/3

Since all teams must be under the salary cap by 1/3 some deals will have to be made soon. What do you think the fire will do.I see stoitchkov, wolff and possibly nowak gone.

If Nowak is back another year then we will probably also lose a player the caliber of Zach, CJ, or Dema. Remember too, Marsch is out of contract and if he returns to the FIRE I doubt he will make close to what he was making b4.

I see Stoitchkov and Wolff as almost certainly gone.

I think there's a good chance that Dema, Marsch, and surprisingly Curtin may also depart for one reason or another.

I don't know why but I see Curtin involved in some sort of package trade (player(s) for picks).

Maybe it was seeing him suited up for freakin' DC United a couple months ago.

That really has nothing to do with anything. Chris Armas and Zach Thornton played 1 or 2 matches as a guest player for Metro last offseason.

Stoichkov is an almost certain goner. Either Wolff (which it probably will be) or Razov will go. Wolff probably will leave though. The fire team docters purposely had Razov's surgery so he would be ready for pre season training. The fire must want to keep him in the ranks for at least another year. Nowak and Wolff will almost certainly be shipped of to NY if anywhere because of the big guy. Bob Bradley

  9. I would not be at all sad to see Hristo and Nowak go. It's time for Armas to step into the team leader role for the long term, and it will clear a lot of money. Hristo maybe could get a job with Milwaukee if not MLS, if he really wants to remain in Lake Bluff to live.

The only players who must not under any circumstances be traded are Armas, Razov, Beasley, Bocanegra, and Marsch. That's it, everyone one else can be offered as trades to other clubs.

It's a shame we won't be able to truly take advantage of the open SI slot that Hristo's departure would open up. I hope Super Dave is scouring Latin Amercia for relatively cheap but quality players.

The problem there is they're not really as cheap as advertised. DC ran into a problem like that with this La Paglia guy...MLS couldn't meet his reduced-but-still-ambitious salary demands, and I'd think you'd find that that would be the case more often than not.

Also, there's no guarantee that we'll have the open SI spot, dependent on how the rules are for 2003 and how Dipsy is classified, or if/when he gets a GC.

I'd be perfectly happy spending a year with the open slot and taking our time on filling it with quality.

Well, we all know that a big-name SI is out due to MLS's supposed "salary cap". I was thinking more of a young relatively little known guy for whom a Ruiz-like year in MLS will be a springboard for either Europe or bigger bucks back home.

Depends on who we get rid of this offseason, I guess. With Bradley getting sent to the Metrostars, maybe the league office will be feeling generous this year, confident that they've finally got a winner in the Swamp.

Yep. Still, it's a shame we won't be able to get a really good SI since we'll almost certainly have a slot open.
