Jeff Gammage continues his excellent coverage of the Philadelphia MLS effort with a piece on Nick Sakiewicz.
Bryan, do you ever sleep!?! "Nick's going to be running the team on a day-to-day basis," co-owner Robert Buccini said, unintentionally lapsing into certainty. "You have to have one person in charge. He'll be the person in charge."
We goalkeepers," Sakiewicz said yesterday, "always thought we had the best vision in the game." Obviously he's a man of class, dignity, good looks, and mental acuity. ...and Bryan will sleep when we have our team.
Somebody rep Hugo for this---I am all out Angryhugo My God, you guys are up early on a Saturday! "The Sons of Ben never rest"... or sleep for that matter. Great to see the piece on Nick, a great guy. Oh, well off to work –see ya in 12
OK I am up. Reading the article should be informative for fans who haven't paid attention to the first 12 seasons of MLS. Nick has a long history of success in the league but is most remembered and hated by New Jersey fans for being the victim of his own optimism versus the glacial pace of stadium negotiations in New Jersey. With the state and county money in the bank here thanks to his great work over a one year period, please don't believe the caricature of him that exists here on BigSoccer. I challenge you to make your own decisions based on his performance and your interactions with him here.
No. They all don't like it, but it was really bland when the project started and they registered it with the state when lobbying efforts started in Feb. 2007
I like Nick, despite his reputation on these boards. I remember reading a really extensive article about his fight to secure the deal for Red Bull Park when they finally broke ground, and how long it took and all the hoops they had to jump through. But he didn't give up and managed to accomplish that dream when no one else could. Then AEG promptly turned around and sold their stake in the operating rights to Red Bull... Anyways, I looked into the name and, according to the state website is reserved as FC PA Stadium, LLC as of 10/17/07: http://www.corporations.state.pa.us/corp/soskb/Corp.asp?2610504
I could think of MUCH worse things to be called...but I doubt it'd be the name, we don't want to annoy the Jersey folk.
the tampa bay team he built was very good(on the field)...i am happy he is involved with us and i think he is definitely a push in the direction all of us SoBs wanna be going in
I think Mr. Sakiewicz is a great, experienced pickup for the organization and look forward to him running the ship. He is a seasoned veteran with both on and off the field expertise, and could only benefit this budding franchise.

This leaves story neglects to mention his role in the marketing campaign "Metro Playoff Fever". Great hats.
I've heard the same, but he did work for Nick at the time. After Guppy got the Fire job, he was asked point blank whether he regretted MFP and he said no.
thanks for the input ... now please go take your wet blanket elsewhere. let the philly fans develop their own opinion of him, without trying to influence them with yours.
That's a fair point. He seemed like a swell enough bloke on Wednesday night. We'll see what happens and hopefully it will be success.
Kinda fitting that you'll have an executive in Philly who is being hated by the New York Red Bull crowd, ain't it?
