According to the BBC, Saha will have his medical on Wednesday and should join the team by this weekend.

I think this is a good move, but I have not seen much of his play. If everything goes through, a game at Wolves would be a great chance to bring him in to see what he can do. If nothing else we have a number two who has proven himself at this level (but so could Forlan if he got consistant playing time)

Like I said elsewhere, I hope he enjoys the bench.

I think this is a good move. Saha has played very well this year, and I think he will make a nice 2nd striker next to Ruud if Alex wants to employ a 4-4-2. (To me, this confirms that Alex wants Ole on the right as his first choice.) The thing that I like the most is that Saha seems to desperately want to play for United. Those are the type of players we want.

at this point i'm just happy to see a back up for, or strike partner for ruud. we have done well to this point of the season but each match finds me worrying about ruud's health. this would put me at better ease (no offense to diego).

also it's nice to see a player clearly and with a loud voice claim to WANT to join united. i get a bit sick of players saying they rejected this team etc. etc. good for saha and good for united!

    Midwest, the real one.
Saha, who is hoping this move will attract the attention of the France coach Jacques Santini, said: "I have wanted to go to United for a month and now I must prove I can play in the team there.

    Wow. A whole month? :)

Being denied by both Fulham and ManYoo.

I think this is either Saha's or more likely his agents final attempt to get this going again after the last statements that left it permanently (until the summer anyway) derailed. Fulham would look stupid to sell him after their last statements and we would look stupid after SAF said no more bids after the 8m bid.

Shame, as a proven premiership goalscorer is definitely what we need and being nearly half-way to 30 for the season is a pretty good record.

Perhaps after his recent form we should try Garry Neville alongside RVN :)

    Die, alright?

If they hadn't just signed Bocanegra, Fulham would be next on my "list".

What sense I can make of the stories this morning is that Fulham are asking for 18 million - not that Chelsea have offered it. There are several reports that say both Alex and Coleman have said there is no deal and also that Chelsea have indeed become interested.

    Here we go again

I don't want this player on the team. He is 25 or 26 years old and he is having his first decent sesaon ever...I think it is just a fluke. Solskjaer and Forlan are good enough backup for RVN. If ManU is going to get a player, get a top quality young star like Van der Vaart.

That's not what Fulham says. In fact they say 18 mil is his price tag.

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=288471&cc=5901

There was a story earlier today with quotes from Saha saying he was going to do the medical and then join Manu, but in the same article Fulham refuted that and basically called him crazy.

VDV is a superb talent, a playmaker and a goalscorer. Very versatile, can play left mid, attack mid, right mid, or striker. Even if he can't play in the CL this season, he would be a much better buy than Louis "*#*#*#*#ing" Saha.

But remember, its still important to get a player who will fit into our system. Veron was/is very talented, but he couldn't really find a place at OT. We need guys who are willing to do their jobs and work with the other ten guys out there. This isn't Madrid, where you hire a bunch of stars and sit back and watch them play. Everything at United is relatively orchestrated (on the field anyways), and we need Saha to understand that. Personally I don't know if one good half-season makes a player able to play for United.

Agree - One good half-season does not an 18million striker make. If we rollover on this and go above 10million then we will continue to get this everytime we try and buy someone. The Chelsea interest is not serious and is the kind of thing we have done in the past to inflate the price for a competitive club.

We should now call it a day on this one and look elsewhere in the summer, possible exception is Defoe who would be worth a punt if cheap enough as he is young enough and improving and worth a risk. If nothing else then to raise the price for Arsenal!

Just say no to Saha. He is a loud mouth non team player who will never fit into the manchester united system. Just look at the how he is handleing the proposed transfer. He has already turned his back on Fulham who is his club. I wouldn't take 20 Louis Saha if I could have one Nicky Butt on my team. United need to be really carefull who they buy these days so that they don't get stuck in a Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid type team. All big names, no heart and no feel. I will take a League cup winning side like United over a CL willing team like Real any day. United has heart, Real has mercinaries.

It must be said that putting Ruud on the Fulham team does not make them a top 3 squad either.

I'm concerned about Saha's attitude, but we aren't close enough to know what's really going on behind closed doors, etc. either.

I prefer to give all of our new signings a chance to prove themselves though.

I'd say our chances are probably about 60/40 ON of us still buying him.

Reading the latest story on soccernet, it seems pretty clear that Saha really wants to be a Red Devil.

That counts for a lot...of course there are other things to take into consideration too...but if someone wants to play at OT, you hope they will leave it all on the pitch.

No doubt Anelka is a good player, but getting him would be like getting anal warts, always annoying.

I say go for Kezman. No to Saha.

But Saha was pretty good in that man utd classic game i saw a few days back, i think he scored 2 goals in that one and it might have been his debut too.

People seem to forget that we are not out to buy stars... just good players who fit SAF's expectations... the clammoring for VdV should have stopped when it was made clear we would get Robben... he is the same type of player and with Ronaldo able to do most of those same things we will be covered in terms of creativity... We need an out and out striker... that is why we are going after Saha... we have creativity covered.... easily... scholes, giggs, klebs, ronaldo, robben next year...firepower is just Ruud, Forlan, and Gunnar...
