Americans will never understand that a dictator, no matter how evil or cruel, will always command undying loyalty from a substantial percentage of his subjects, no matter what.

When Bush & Co., before the invasion, claimed that Iraqis would greet us with open arms as liberators, I thought they were peddling self-aknowledged bullshit. Now it appears they actually believed their claims. Astounding.

Who does Saddam command? A thousand because he pays them. What an empire he has. Eventially they will all be in the ground Saddam as well if he is still alive.

If this is true, then Saddam is a heroic warlord of Biblical proportions. If he can eek out another victory, he will become legend and children will hear stories about him a thousand years from now.

I don't believe Saddam is still calling the shot.

I believe the insurgences are a bunch of nationalists or islamic idealogues.
