In-depth article from mlssoccer.com: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...ramento-republic-fc-joined-mls-expansion-conv But hopefully the rest of you are downtown at the championship celebration right now, instead of stuck in the office like me.
From Sac Bee, what's next for players on the roster not that their contracts are up... Future of the roster Of note, Lopez's quote that, "We're on our own now, but I know a lot of the guys would like to come back;" that an MLS club offered him an opportunity mid-season; and another reference in the article that "Club officials are expecting MLS to make an announcement in December about Sacramento’s fate." Good stuff.
Urijah Fabor joins the investment team. Great celebrity addition, though actual investment to be small. A bigger investor, from the same article, is Dale Carlson. Owner of Sleep Train Mattress ( $450 million company). Another heavy hitter From a sac bee article today cant oink it; technical difficulties
Another tidbit from the article. MLS BoG is meeting today in LA. Expansion is on the agenda. Maybe some info to start leaking out soon??
Me too. A little nervous, actually. I had a good conversation with a few Republic execs at the parade. They are pretty confident with our position, and feel we have a leg up on all the competition. The Railyards stadium is pretty much a done deal (almost shovel ready was their words), so they don't feel there is anything else that could be done to make the bid stronger. It pretty much amounts to "MLS told Republic they needed X,Y and Z for a successful bid. Republic has gone back to them with X,Y and Z." One exec said, if MLS walks away from Sac (with the bid we have in place), it was never meant to be, and MLS just didn't have us in their short term plans.
The fact that Chivas USA('s franchise slot) will go on hiatus for a couple of years really mixes things up. I still don't think Sac will get MLS next year even with that news. But perhaps will be sometime not long after. We shall see. Crossing my fingers, would love to have MLS here, mostly for selfish reasons, I can watch both the Quakes and Republic take on MLS teams on a regular basis and we can see a great new piece of the city come to fruition.
http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/841205.html A lot of old information but this is very interesting - future capacity of up to 16k, an academy and PDL franchise (Graham Smith made a reference to a PDL team during a Q&A session in between filming of "The Chant" commercial).
Just a quick aside, SacBee.com seems to have expanded the scope of its soccer coverage from SRFC-centric to a much more broad coverage that includes lots of MLS, national team, and international soccer news... http://www.sacbee.com/sports/mls/
Jake Gleeson called up to New Zealand Mens National Team: http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/842545.html Good for him!
So apparently the FO will start producing a premium clothing collection, as in more fashionable street clothes that look like more than just fan merchandise. Preview
Nice find. I look forward to seeing some of that gear. I find most t-shirts and hats that teams peddle to be lacking in either quality or fit.
Here's the new clothing line, coming out on Black Friday with discount deals. http://www.sacrepublicfc.com/sacramento-republic-fc-introduces-new-merchandise-time-holidays/
The collection came out on November 21st. Not a fan of the shirt (way too many logos) but the jacket and scarf look cool. All but one of my Sac Republic shirts have shrunk horribly. Might stop me from purchasing shirts unless I decide to hang dry.
Not really "the media" per se, but in the newest edition of Chico Statements (I am a Chico State alum) there is a nice article on the championship season. Both Dominik Jakubek and Octavio Guzman graduated from Chico State as well.
From today's Bee on trialist Adnan Gabeljic: Striker Adnan Gabeljic hopes he's found a home with Republic FC And, from Wednesday, facing a star like Raul: Republic FC looks forward to challenge of Raul, of famed New York Cosmos Isn't funny how the press treats the Cosmos as the exact same organization it was from the '70's instead of a brand new club that merely bought the name?
Yeah, I noticed that on Republic's website and FB page, too. Awkward ... That's okay though, Cosmos will get to witness an actual championship team in action later tonight.
