Quakes should sign him. But we know it won’t happen because Jesse won’t sign MLS players. We’d rather sign a guy who scored 2 goals at Reno. We would never accept a player who’s been soiled by another MLS team, and is not pure unadulterated Earthquakes brilliance!
I guess the long and the short of it is to avoid stretching out jokes on BigSoccer lest one get pun-ished, so I will stop short now.
According to @Replikait that is because we're all grouchy, horny old men with only a rudimentary understanding of how this here "interwebz" works...
Actually, we passed on Mussovski and Langsdorf. Two strikers developed at Reno. Moose now starting for LaF*ck and Langsdorf expected to get serious minutes for the Loons. But clearly, two players not nearly good enough for the Quakes!! Jesse and Matías are so stuck in their ways, and their mind set, they basically have their heads up their butts. I’m want them both gone, like yesterday. — But hey, let’s watch the coming season and see if we think that either Moose or Langsdorf could have helped us. Shit! Go Quakesfans!! - Mark
"Decent chance Sacramento Republic could play in smaller 2021 U.S. Open Cup" (Indomitable City Soccer - Thursday, 2/11/21) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Well that answers the question “could things get any worse than the Quakes and their ownership”.... Major breaking news:The MLS Sacramento expansion franchise is dropping out."Earlier today, Ron Burkle informed the League that based on issues with the project related to COVID-19, he has decided to not move forward with the acquisition of an MLS expansion team in Sacramento" pic.twitter.com/8AsoZfrRub— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) February 27, 2021 https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2021/02/26/mls-announces-update-sacramento-expansion What is this “based on Covid” nonsense, millions are getting their vaccines every day, my mom just got her second dose earlier this week [emoji23]
Big news and it's not good for Sacramento. Lead investor "Ron Burkle has decided not to move forward with the acquisition of an MLS expansion team in Sacramento." https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2021/02/26/mls-announces-update-sacramento-expansion
Burkle backs out of Sacramento #MLS expansion project. Source says costs associated with stadium were major reason for not moving forward. https://t.co/ghqWI8plYX— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) February 27, 2021 Stadium costs
I’d keep an 👁 on Vegas & Phoenix markets for a @MLS franchise with the Sacramento news. Vegas especially with how successful the @GoldenKnights have been. #MLS— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) February 27, 2021
WHAT Burkle is out due to financial difficulties. Source says that Sacramento’s ownership group never signed nor returned the long-form expansion agreement to MLS.Source also said that the league remains interested in Sacramento, but no owner, no team. MLS won’t rush next steps. https://t.co/rdztYdePyj— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) February 27, 2021 “Source says that Sacramento’s ownership group never signed nor returned the long-form expansion agreement to MLS.”
Sacramento mayor’s statement: https://www.indomitablecitysoccer.c...ted-ron-burkle-abandoning-sacramento-mls-team Sacramento’s rightful quest for Major League soccer is far from done. It took multiple stops and starts to keep the Kings. We won then, and we will win again. I am very disappointed in Ron Burkle’s decision to step out of his October 2019 public commitment to our city. >Despite the difficult past year for our city, we have upheld every commitment to Mr. Burkle, the league, and our community. We took major steps to welcome Major League Soccer to a new stadium in The Railyards, and we remain prepared to move forward immediately. I greatly appreciate the support of Commissioner Don Garber and MLS. They have done right by us, and they continue to stand behind us. We will still bring MLS to Sacramento, and we will work with the league to find a new lead investor. We are not starting from scratch by any means. We have an approved stadium plan and an approved plan to build and pay for infrastructure. We also have the best fan base in the country – one that has shown time and time again that it can support an MLS team. We have only begun to fight for what our city deserves.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/sacrame...te-hold-after-main-investor-pulls-out-of-deal "Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation cited increasing costs associated with building a stadium at the Downtown Railyards site as the primary reason Burkle, who also co-owns the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, decided not to move forward. One source said that the costs for the Sacramento stadium went from $300 million to $400 million, while infrastructure costs increased from $27 million to $47 million. On top of those increases, the ability to raise funds from the projects' limited partners, all in the middle of a pandemic, fell roughly $60 million short of what was anticipated" "MLS announced the team in Sacramento to much fanfare in October of 2019. But the deal was complicated. Not only did Burkle and co-investor Matt Alvarez need to put up a $200 million expansion fee, plus the costs of the stadium, but Burkle and Alvarez also needed to acquire USL Championship side Sacramento Republic from owner Kevin Nagle. That part of the deal was also not completed." "The announcement amounts to a massive setback, and possibly a death knell, for Sacramento's expansion hopes. While the USL Championship side Sacramento Republic remains well-supported, finding an ownership group with sufficiently deep pockets has been a struggle. In late 2017, Sacramento was thought to be one of the front-runners in the expansion race, but ended up losing out to Nashville and Cincinnati when Meg Whitman opted not to invest in Sacramento's expansion effort." Basically, fans are there. Stadium plans are there. But no team, no owner, and no money.
That really really sucks for Sacramento. People in the area must have put a lot of money into engineering, property rights, municipal approvals, etc etc. I wonder if people will start suing Burkle to recoup those costs, as I’d bet that he paid for little of those upfront expenses. Because that’s how billionaires operate...
