I doubt there'll be much interest in Sacha in Europe. He's a rather difficult player to fit in the modern formations, a CM with very little specialization, not great in attack, not great in defense. He'd need a team playing the 2010 4-2-3-1 with one DM, one CM (him), and one CAM.

Since Anderlecht changed to the 4-4-2, he's become surplus to requirements.

Thanks for that. I meant the Ivory Coast though.

Only 29 with years of European and CL experience and not expensive. Should have a few clubs giving him a look.

Gotta agree with Viking here. A tactical switch means that he's surplus to Anderlecht's requirements; not that he's become a bad player, let alone one incapable of being in the rotation for a top-5 Belgian club or equivalent that doesn't play 4-4-2.

This season he's made the bench or played in every Jupiler Pro league game, making 10 league appearances, and going >20' in 4 games and 90' in another 3. In the CL, he made the bench for all 6 games, and played in 4 of them, going 24', 7', 90' and 69'.

IMO the conclusion of a scouting report might read something like:
Solid if unspectacular CL & international CDM/CM with a professional attitude. Potentially 3-4 years PT still left. Coach seems to rate him as a player, but favours a 4-4-2 that doesn't use him to his maximum.
Under contract until 30/06/2016, but "available for a fair offer."
    Potential bargain?
Suggest seeking loan deal with an option to buy.

Exactly, that is a great resume for a team hunting for a bargain in the winter transfer window. He is a serviceable box to box midfielder with tons of experience and no fitness issues. He'll get a shot at another Euro club if he wants one. Who knows, he may want to spend a little of his last real playing years in the US. With him not being a DP candidate (IMO) he'll have to go through the MLS disbursement process, and I don't think that lands with him where he wants to be (assuming still Galaxy). I think that might decrease the odds we see him in MLS next season.

Oh yes, he's a decent player. My observation is that few clubs play the style that favors him.

Be as it may, the transfer rumors about him are nil: no one seems to be inquiring, at least not in public.

Normally, when a player is transfer listed, there are a handful of rumors.

The American passport doesn't help in that regard. JK should have thrown him a bone. Brought him to Brazil even if just to ride the bench, it'd help for his agent to say "he was on the roster for Brazil"

His wife is a UK-born but America-raised Brit. She has a UK passport. She can live & work anywhere in the EU. In general, so can he because he's married to her.

Even if there were restrictions that he'd face if he was, say, an engineer or a teacher, with his track record as a footballer he'd be fine in his own right everywhere in Europe except the UK, where she's a citizen.

Him not being taken to Brazil isn't a big issue either way. He's got 45 caps and played four friendlies in the 2013/14 season, the last one being 63' against the Ukraine in March. Anyway, who was Klinsi to leave behind so he could go?

Sacha's father is a Bosnian-born Serb so it's very plausible that Sacha has either a Bosnian or Serbian passport.

But neither is an EU or EEA country, which doesn't help in that regard, unless he wants to play in Bosnia or Serbia.

    ....DAVIS....

hey for the guys who watch or follow the team closely. What has been the key component over the last few years for the club? Since it's won 3 consecutive league titles not to mention the Super Cups. How big a role has Sacha played in their success if you had to grade it?

    "Who's Jethro Tull?"

Sorry to quote a crap movie. Better than putting the clip.

Surmise on the Red Bull fan boards is that the Sacha rumor has been floated by the front office to distract from their otherwise complete incompetence re: the Mike Petke firing.

The argument is that they wouldn't. They just want to be linked to big names like Sacha and Jozy to distract the fans.

Kljestan played 8 minutes as Anderlecht returned from the break with a 3-0 home win against Lierse this weekend.

According to Seltzer LA, Seattle, NYRB, Chicago, 2 other MLS sides, Gent, an Eredivisie team, and another European team are interested in him.

Also, manager Besnik Hasi has asked him to stay at least until the end of the season..

Why the request to stay until May if he's only given 8 minutes a match here or there? Curious what league that European team is in.
