I'm not surprised. Every single time he spoke, I wasn't enthused. His complete lack of tactical ability didn't help either. He should go back to writing music reviews and being an underwear model.
Tbh, I don't disagree with him, with this roster than each and every one of us says sucks. That being said, the roster is capable of being more competent than HR could get them to be. Cup contender? Certainly not. A professional team that looks like they trained together and plays to their strengths? Yeah, I expect that at a minimum, and HR couldn't even do that.
Anyone think it's slightly odd that we did it just 1 week before a 2 month break? It feels like making a sub in the 95th minute when you're down a goal. Though I suppose if we get 2 wins this week, no one will complain, and if we get 2 losses this week, everyone will say that we would have picked up 2 losses anyway, whether Rydstrom stayed or not.
Do it now while the Columbus soccer attention is still on the team. Once the World Cup comes and MLS pauses, how much attention will it get? It was the lead story on NBC at 6pm tonight.
Well all but 2 or 3 can leave if I’m being honest so there is no chance this was the determining factor.
Rydstrom said his family would be coming over during the break. Perhaps that had something to do with it. He’s been here on his own these initial months. If it’s not working out and - as has been noted - Bez was part of the decision and is probably arriving soonish, as well, then why not cut bait now? I certainly don’t dislike Rydstrom. He seems like a nice enough guy. Sacking him right after his family arrives would be pretty cold.
. Sadly we lost a key striker to injury and yes we do have some competent players who can lift the team and hold on to leads.. but again we unfortunately dont have that Baller that everyone is afraid of atm
A lot of people are conflating the fact that Issa Tall needs to go with the fact that Henrik also needed to go. These two things are not now, nor have ever been, mutually exclusive. I'm excited to watch the next Crew game, which is something I couldn't have said at any point after game three this season.
Good grief Arace sucks so bad. Well the players might be thrilled to be done with this buffoon, but he gave a good quote so Arace isn’t happy. Won’t someone please think of the poor reporters???!
He’s totally allowed to have an opinion. It’s not even a bad opinion! I just think it’s clumsily expressed, it seems quite condescending to me. Rydström came across as knowledgeable and humble and open and honest and all the things a reporter would want. But shouldn’t a guy covering the team be able to recognize that tactically this guy had busted things completely beyond recognition…? 2 freaking false 9s???? A counterattacking 4-4-2 with an old slow central midfield in front of an old slow center back? There was none of that mentioned in Araces dreamy-eyed coverage of this nice guy coach. Just fawning appreciation that Rydström was willing to sit with him. Arace is free to be sad that he won’t have that anymore. But it seems to me he’s using that opinion as the basis to form a larger opinion that Rydström should still have a job. That’s stupid. That’s just plain dumb.
Doyle: Rydstrom said the team was soft. The team didnt like that https://tacticsfreezone.ghost.io/ry...attrition-crushing-colorado-more-matchday-14/
The article says this: On the other, by late 2025 they'd clearly gone a little stale, and a new voice seemed like the right medicine. Whatever other cultural or personality issues were at play, that's the big one: the Crew kept Nancy's players, said they wanted to keep Nancy's game model, and then hired a coach whose vision of how the game should be played was the exact opposite. And so today Rydström is, like Nancy, a former Crew head coach. The wording makes it seem like Wilfried was fired. Of course we all know he wasn't, but if you're reading that article without that knowledge...do better, Matt Doyle.
So tall said these things in separate q&as today ↩ [Michael Arace (@michaelarace1.bsky.social)](https://bsky.app/profile/michaelarace1.bsky.social) Tall on Courtois, who will take over as interim\: ︀︀"He has the next two games, but the plan is for him to stay longer\. Even after the summer break\. I think he's deserving of the chance\."
This is my big problem with Arace. People like him because he writes about the Crew and no one else does. Problem is, it's all very shallow vibes based analysis. There's no real tactical analysis. He sounds like to me a dude that watches his local team, but knows next to nothing about the sport outside 270.
We should move on before we beat a dead horse, but I just have to point out he compared Rydström to Sigi Schmidt. I’m not kidding. (paywall removed for this one.) https://www.thedisrespected.com/p/078da687-9b78-4e44-961d-7c1b6037f159/
Well, it’s an irrelevant debate now. I don’t think HR had any real supporters at this point. Just those who saw the sorry state of the roster he inherited and concluded that he wasn’t 100% at blame for our results. Tall, on the other hand, is the architect of this roster and is universally disliked and blamed, near as I can tell. If Bez pulled the strings re: HR’s departure, then I assume Tall is also a dead man walking at this point. Whether he’s fired or reassigned to a lesser role, I don’t know. But Bez is returning to run the show. Tall’s awkward comments about Nancy’s future are meaningless. He had a shot at hiring a coach and failed badly. By the way, I celebrated Porter’s firing. But I’m with Arace in not celebrating this time. In retrospect, a guy with zero experience outside of Sweden handed a marginal roster that became woefully inadequate after Abou Ali’s injury was simply unprepared to do the job. He seemed like a good person, a smart and thoughtful guy. I wish him well in whatever lower level coaching gig he slots back into next. Good luck to Courtois. I doubt, and would be disappointed if, he’s Bez’s choice for our next permanent coach.
About time. It has been hard to watch these matches of late. The lineup may be depleted, the loss of Nagbe really shows since the defense and midfield can’t seem to link, but the formation and lineups are puzzling. We don’t have four good backs so why play with four? I don’t know anything about the interim coach, but he better at evaluating players it’s a big step forward.
