He was thrown into a disorganized team with terrible players. What was he supposed to do? He did as well as he could have. Shouldn’t have played the possession football though.
Can only assume that Bez ordered the code red. Should be an interesting window. I don't think Courtois is a long-term solution.
Contrary to what that mess elsewhere thinks, I don't think it'll be a Wilfried Nancy part two. https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-relieve-henrik-rydstrom-of-head-coaching-duties The other part: The Crew have also parted ways with Assistant Coach Theodor Olsson and Analyst Mak Pakhei.
Prefacing this by saying that I very much want the Caps to stay in Vancouver. However, if Dirty Dong ends up moving the team, I’d love to swoop in and try to steal Jesper Sorensen (and a player or two). Sorry for not sharing details of this earlier, but you know why or should I say who ; ) . And, yes, Bez had input in this. He will pick the next coach if Courtois doesn’t work out to his satisfaction.
We need someone to get a gif of A Few Good Men with Bez's face on Jessop saying "You're Goddamn right I did!"
From the outside, looking at the team this year, it really seemed like there was no cohesive tactical plan. It was easy to wonder if things were that bad, or if there was a vision and progress towards that vision. This move would seem to confirm that the latter was absolutely not true. Will be interesting to see if Courtois goes back to Nancyball, or if he tries for the much-ballyhooed "evolution, not revolution".
Nothing ever felt right with the hire of HR, I also have a feeling the dude had alot of new hire regret shortly after taking the job. I still cant tell if he was a horrible coach, workign with a horrible roster, or if we was a mid level coach making a mid level roster worse.
The next coach will not be picked by Issa. However, I doubt we fire him. He may leave of his own accord though. After all, his title may remain the same, but he won’t be calling the shots (thank f*ck).
Saying the roster is good is ridiculous by Tall, but Rydstrom didn’t do himself any favors anyways. Just messy
Serious question: is Bez ********ing delusional about our serious lack of talent right now and the shithole that his successor has left us with? This team collapses because they are not built to hold a lead.
I think Bez is out of his depth if he is putting his head in the ground about the quality of our team.
Wasn't it Toronto who hired a European coach with grandiose ideas who ended up not being able to crack the MLS system? That...as evidenced by this part: “We thank Henrik for his commitment to the Crew, and we expect a successful transition based on Laurent’s familiarity with our Club, players and league.”
One of the reasons we don't is because the ownership has believed in coaches. Sigi sucked in 2006, with a mostly shit roster. And don't give me this "HURR HURR 2006 WAS A DIFFERENT TIME" - teams either were good or bad against competition, that is always the same, everyone is always on a similar playing field at the end of the day. Not believing in HR smacks of jumping the shark. They could have fired Sigi and gone with Bobby then, too. Bobby and Laurent had about the same amount of first team coaching experience. I think this was too early of a move and it smacks of "we are better than everyone else" - the guy didn't even get a single ********ing window of getting teams for his own style of play. He was saddled with the bad decisions of his predecessor. The guy won championships where he came from. And then he was barely given a chance here. It is halfway through May. MAY. This is stupid. Full stop. You Eurowhores can cheer it on all you want since you love the ********ing smell of blood in the water. I'll pass.
I’m sure the comment about fans “lowering their expectations” was the final nail here. I’m surprised there wasn’t more outrage from that comment.
He sees the team day in and day out and probably knew we needed to drop our expectations based on what he saw at practice etc. He knew their potential.
