Let the bickering begin! Golf etiquette tested at Ryder Cup And from the British tabloid perspective: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/sporttop/page.cfm?objectid=12226914&method=full&siteid=50143
I remember after the last Ryder Cup some English hack said that American golf fans were the worst fans in all of sports. That was worth a good laugh.
Perhaps the tournament will be held in the manner it deserves. The 'English' hack's indignation had decent grounds but not about US fans being worse than any other fans. I can think of football for one Hell, I don't even like golf, but it'd be nice to keep a gentleman's sport - well, gentlemanly.
How smashing that the Americans continue to kick British and Euro ARSE in a game the Americans did NOT invent!!!

opening ceremony The TV was on in the background showing the opening ceremonies, and I have a couple of questions. 1. Whose national anthem uses the Ode to Joy portion of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony? Or since it was the final anthem, was it an anthem for Europe and the whole European team? 2. Who was the stunning blonde woman the camera showed a few time while the Swedish anthem was playing? My first thought was that she must be the wife/girlfriend of a Swede, but she was wearing an outfit that matched the colors of the US players wives/girlfriends. I follow golf minimally--recognize many, not all, players but few, if any, wives/girlfriends. (By the way, if you know who the blonde is, do you know if there is a website with other pics of her?)
Re: opening ceremony I didn't see it so I am going with pure blind guess. But Jasper's nanny and Tiger were dating. So I would think that it is possible her. She is supposed to a be a super hottie. Probably explains the Sweden and US affiliation mixing that was going on with her.
The blonde was more than likely Tiger Wood's lady, the stunning Elin Nordegren. Wait, it gets even better - she has an identical twin. No, seriously, wait, it gets even better than that - they've both done modeling, some of it nude. Have a look around the web and you'll find some of it. As for the Ryder Cup, so many of the U.S. players have gone into the tank since this team was selected a couple of years ago. They really should have re-selected the team when they postponed the competition. The same holds true for the Euros (I'm sure they'd love to ditch Jesper), but not to the same extent as the U.S. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Euros win in a walk.
BELFRY'S BRICKBATS MAKE GREAT SPORT Sep 24 2002 Out of all the countless annoying sporting cliches, possibly the most irritating - even more so than 'there or thereabouts' (where exactly is 'thereabouts'?) - is 'let's try to keep politics out of sport'. Is this the TYPICAL BRITISH PRATTLE you had in mind? If so, than use this link!!! http://www.mirror.co.uk/columnists/mattnormansport/
Doesn't that link point to exactly the same story as the one I posted? What actual bit of that story did you find annoying? A large chunk of the article was saying how it is impossible to keep politics out of sport, and yet that's what appears to be annoying you. In today's Mirror was a picture of the US team's wives, all lined up with big hair and matching uniforms. I think the comment was that they had a "stepford wives" look about them.
Getting our butts handed to us so far. Must have been a great morning match with Bjorn/Clarke topping Tiger/Zinger. And Lee Westwood makes his first birdies in months to carry Sergio around to victory.
For all his success, Tiger is a massive flop in Ryder Cup matches. I don't have the exact stats, but if his team loses the afternoon match, he'd be 1-5-1 in Ryder Cup matches. Somebody get him $1 million so he starts to care. Anyone watching this? How have the crowds been? Polite or rude?
Friday ends with the score 4.5 to 3.5 to Europe. The USA had a good comeback in the afternoon. The crowds from what I have heard have been well behaved.
The US is in very, very good shape. They have traditionally fared better in the later, individual matches. If someone had asked me if I'd take being down 4.5 to 3.5 after the first day, I'd say absolutely.
Great comeback for the Good Guys. Tiger is 3-8-1 in Ryder Cup. He did have a bad putting afternoon in the alternate shot but he and Azinger shot 63 this morning. Hard to call that round a flop. Just happened that the other team shot 62.
USA edge gripping day The Ryder Cup will go into Sunday's singles level at 8-8 after one of the best sessions of golf in the history of the competition. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/golf/ryder_cup/2286271.stm
Tied going into singles! I hate to be cocky, but the Cup's coming back across the pond. Anything better than down 9.5 to 6.5, I would have accepted. 8-8 is almost too good to be true.
Uh oh! Garcia angered by celebrations Sergio Garcia was left angered after American team members invaded the 18th green as he and Lee Westwood lost their unbeaten record at the 34th Ryder Cup. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/golf/ryder_cup/2286716.stm
Re: opening ceremony Beethoven's Eroica Symphony is his third. The Ode To Joy comes in the ninth, or Choral, Symphony. You are right, it is the anthem for the European Union. The blonde is indeed Tiger's woman. And yes, she is terribly hot.
Re: Uh oh! Garcia should quit whining. If he had made one of the two very makeable putts on 17 and 18, the Euros wouldn't have been in that position. BTW, "invaded" is pure hyperbole. Both teams were going on to the green to congratulate winning teams. This from a guy who was doing Ted Nugent guitar kicks on the 12th green. Please.
