Did not have one thread for continuous updates, so here we go... http://www.stpatsfc.com/preview.php?id=348 2nd leg of Europa league on Thursday against Valletta (1-1 after first home leg)
Re: Ryan Guy at St. Pat's (ongoing) I guess one could say we've been using this thread, but there really isn't much in the way of Ryan Guy discussion.
Re: Ryan Guy at St. Pat's (ongoing) He's doing well this season again. How many goals did he have last season?
Re: Ryan Guy at St. Pat's (ongoing) http://www.stpatsfc.com/player.php?playerid=51 He had 15 league goals and 1 Setanta Cup goal last year, if that page is to be trusted. Given that it lists him at 0cm and 0kgs, I'm not so sure.
Re: Ryan Guy at St. Pat's (ongoing) Check that, those are probably career totals for goals. He has 3 this year, 10 last year, and 3 the year before that.
Re: Ryan Guy at St. Pat's (ongoing) We need an R in here, but Guy got the assist on a very important goal as St Pat's beat Krylya Sovetov at home 1-0 in the Europa League.
Re: Ryan Guy at St. Pat's (ongoing) Huge win for St. Pat's. They still have a mountain to climb when they travel to Samara, but they do have a lead and they didn't concede an away goal. It's a nice result for Irish football and Ireland's UEFA coefficient, but I think that Wings of the Soviets are still favorites to go through.
Re: Ryan Guy at St. Pat's (ongoing) Best name ever? It rivals Go Ahead Eagles of Holland, CD O'Higgins of Chile, and The Strongest of Bolivia.
Re: Ryan Guy at St. Pat's (ongoing) I thought we had it whittled down to Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake. While we are discussing Russian teams, I've always been partial to Tom Tomsk. Direct marketing, I guess. But really, any list of ridiculous team names in soccer would be 70% J-League: Shimizu S-Pulse, Nagoya Grampus Eight (now just Nagoya Grampus), Kyoto Purple Sanga (now Kyoto Sanga), Mito Hollyhock... Anyway, it would be a big win for Irish football should St. Pat's go through. It's a miracle that they can beat Krylya Sovetov at home yet they can't seem to beat Galway United in the same stadium.
Guy scored two goals in a 3-0 win over UCD last week. You can see them here, starting about 22:45 in: http://www.rte.ie/player/#v=1069174
RyGuy says his game tonight is being televised online: http://www.rte.ie/live/ Kickoff is 735pm local, 1135pm San Diego, 235pm east coast.
They still might be able to. MLS pays alot more than LOI. This guy has an English passport though I'm pretty sure, so I think he'll be trying to move to CCChampionship after this season.
Actually according to a preseason interview I posted in the old thread he is trying to get an Irish passport, which would then allow him to move to England.
Here is a recent interview with Ryan that the club posted. The first little bit is a club photo shoot then they get to Ryan. RyGuy said today that he made the squad to face Manchester United on August 4! Pretty good stuff. Lets hope he impresses.
More on the aforementioned match: Ryan Guy was selected as part of a league allstar-type team that will take on Man Utd in the Airticity Challenge which will be the 1st match at the new Aviva Stadium. http://www.thesportreview.com/tsr/2010/07/airtricity-league-name-squad-to-face-manchester-united/ An interview with Guy about making the team and playing Man Utd: http://www.extratime.ie/newsdesk/articles/4019/
Ryan played 70 minutes against Manchester United. His flip throw ins were a hit with the crowd and Sir Alex. He didn't score but his St. Pats teammate Dave Mulcahy did. ManU won 7-1. http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/united-sprinkle-the-stardust-127093.html
