I'm somewhat of a newcomer to the world of soccer, but I haven't seen a lot of players signing with clubs for the duration of their careers. If this works out, it's great news for United. Are contracts like this a common occurance? Please share you thoughts.

It's really not that common at all from what I've seen. But Ruud's loyalty to this club (and vice versa), is so high that it is very possible. Hopefully he'll be ending his career at United, though not for many years. (Of course I wouldn't complain if he took a couple of years in MLS to top it all off ;))

Didn't he say late last season that he wants to stay in England for a few more seasons and then go back to Holland?

I think that he'd be crazy to leave United, because all of the offensive attention is on him. Chelsea may be riding high now, but who knows how long that money will be good for -- things aren't that stable in Russia. The only way that he could think of moving to Real Madrid would be if Ronaldo leaves -- otherwise, why give up his spot as the top scorer on the best known (and one of the best) teams in the world?

Man...If you didn't love ruud before...love him now. The man is not just a great player, but a great person off the field. Class all around.

""I have never just wanted to be here, score goals and look at my bank account. I wanted to have a warm feeling for the club. I can’t just be cold and just think about the football business. If you want to become part of the history then you have to embrace history from the past.""

    ARE YOU LISTENING, SEPP????????????????????????????????????

Its glad to hear that "Van the Man" doesn't want to play for Chelsea. That shows that he is loyal to Mancheter United.

Nevertheless, give him the pay rise, Alex, and to hell with the share holders' dividends

More likely, come out of transfer funds. Oh well, it's worth it. Not like Man Utd is going to get anyone better than Ruud (or with a better attitude).

40,000 a week isn't peanuts but when you consider what other players are getting Ruud is worth a lot more than that to Utd :)
