After missing out in 2 big awards Ruud has won the League Managers Award for best forward, beating Henry. Paul Scholes is voted best Midfielder by the League Managers Association. Pity PFA dont vote at the end of the season, but Henry has played really well. Its a shame that you score over 40 goals in a season, and still not be PFA player of the year.
MANCHESTER (Reuters) - Ruud van Nistelrooy has recognised a fault in his game despite his goal-scoring feats in Manchester United's premier league triumph. The free-scoring Dutch striker said in an interview published on Wednesday that he wants to be less selfish next season and help his team mates score more goals. Van Nistelrooy has netted 24 premier league goals in his total of 43 strikes this season, but has been credited with just four assists -- the same as defender Gary Neville. "Next season I want to work hard to improve my assists," Van Nistelrooy told the Manchester Evening News. "It won't mean fewer goals but there is a balance between always looking for the goal and setting colleagues up," he said. "You have to be clear in your mind that if you have a chance you have to take it. You don't have to think about an assist, that has to be a natural thing. For me the natural thing is to see the goal." Van Nistelrooy said he had upset his United team mates this season by refusing to pass when they were in a better position to score. "Sometimes I turn round after a shot and I look around at the players who were in a good position and they aren't happy. But that is the way it is," he said. "I do feel if someone is in a better position than me I have to give it. There is no doubt about it. But if I see the goal, that is where I want to put it. Maybe the right mix will come in time."
"Ruud wIns Managers Award". How can he win a "Manager's Award".... when he's not a Manager? I know, i know... not very funny was it. I agree that he has been quite the goal-hog this year. And it's nice to see that Ruud also can spot the weakneses in his game - Ruud could learn alot about assists from Henry ( as Henry could learn about helping defend from Ruud ) It will be a welcome addition to his game
I did love seeing three frigging hat tricks though. In the previous game with the hat trick (forget team), Ruud was DEFINATELY being selfish at the end trying for a fourth. I can remember Beckham making a very public display about not getting the ball while wide open at the top of the box.
In this latest hat trick, Ruud was definately NOT selfish, IMO. I would love to see both goals achieved next season: (1) Ruud tops his scoring record of 46 from this season , and (2) ManUtd beats Arsenal for number of goals scored by EPL team. I think we can do #2 but #1? Wow that would be fantastic! And I'd trade both of those for another EPL trophy.
I think you misunderstood what I was saying - "And I'd trade both of those for another EPL trophy." This means that, instead of either of the above two, I'd prefer the EPL trophy.
