First its bogus SCC officials giving Tennessee the calls late in the first half negating a RU TD.....

Now they get screwed vs Miami when they were playing their asses' off. 24-8 at halftime and there was no way they were going to lose with that momentum. What a invisible defensive holding call ....pure crap to keep Miami undefeated...

    Okay, the score was 42-17.

I don't care what kind of momentum you had. You still lost 42-17. One call ain't gonna change that. Be very proud that you beat a very good team for three quarters. However, you should have expected a 28-point loss in that last quarter.

Can anyone explain to me how Rutgers and Temple are so bad?? Is it because kids think they are private schools or something?? Stupid theory, I know. Maybe they would be better if they were NJU and U of Philadelphia?? :)

It just seems to me like a lot of football talent comes out of both of those states. They might be the only true high school football hotbeds in the Northeast. I know Philly is considered a b-ball town, but it just seems like if you could get the coaches with the right vision, that you have 2 sleeping giants in those schools. I know Schiano said that was his goal, win the recruiting war in NJ. It always seems like Ga Tech, UVa, Miami, etc. have several guys every year that they recruit down from those parts...

Temple sucks because they have no city support, and no alum / booster / school administrative support to improve training facilities or build their own stadium. If you're a talented Philly kid and take official visits to Temple and Penn State, you would never go to Temple. There's been talk for a decade that Temple was going to drop to I-AA or kill off football entirely -- would you want to commit to Temple, thinking that you were going to play Miami every year, and then you see William & Mary and Dartmouth instead? They'll have that fear hanging over them until they either commit with money or get out of the business.

Rutgers is a tougher one to figure out. They have some deep-pocketed alumni, a very nice newish stadium that's the perfect size for their fan base, a humungous student population that's rabid about other sports like basketball, and the advantage of being the only I-A football school in the NYC area. The only reasonable answer that I could ever come up with is inertia - bad years beget more bad years because you can't recruit against Penn State, Syracuse, BC, or any of the other old Eastern indies if everyone thinks you're terrible.

The other problem is that Rutgers has not been good at generating NFL draftees, whereas all of the teams I list above have been. Even Villanova has a better track record making pros than Rutgers does, most likely.

There is a dark and devious conspirital plot against Rutgers that reaches into all corners of society and the highest levels government.

Or it could be you just suck at football.

Well, maybe 'Cuse is helping them by sucking this year...even though they trounced the Knights. An advantage Rutgers will always have that needs to be more emphasized is that it is a large public school, unlike the private, Catholic, BC or the private, Whatever it is, Syracuse.

You have a good point...only major I-A school really near NYC. On top of that, the only I-A school in the State of New Jersey, which, as I said, turns out good HS players. I honestly think the Miami game is a good recruiting tool if any recruits were there...that feeling of a potential upset, the chance to prove yourself worthy...all good.

I have no vested interest in the Scarlet Knights, except that I love seeing teams that suck become good...like Oregon State. I hope it happens for SUNJ-Piscataway someday... :)

Yup, Villanova's done better sending dudes to the NFL.

I don't think you are allowed to include Fox studio hosts...I am not even sure you can include Finneran...the guy can only catch a ball when defenders are all over him...if he is in the open field, he forgets how to use his hands.

Marco Battaglia got drafted, is he still around?

Their stadium is cool, real grass, the whole thing (saw William Green drop 200 on em last year).

Their hoop joint is awesome. The RAC is hot. They have the facilities, but even Jersey BC alums vow that Rutgers were NEVER on their radar. Don't know why.

Don't think so, but now I remember him playing for the Bengals when they were only kind of a joke.
