No, loans aren't allowed under the transfer windows into the top leagues...only out of contract players.

Well, if the team wants him to actually play come Jan. 1, you'd think he'd want 5-6 weeks to get back into game shape and get acclimated to his new team and league. Does the window only apply to game action?

Really. What about all the losses the Revs have had WITH him on the field?

Sorry to say this, but his position is filled... by Frankie, you know, a guy who is actually good. I don't mean to criticize you, but really the common fan in NE doesn't know jack... I should know... I live in NE.

This isn't going to go for 200 posts again, is it?

Not sure about the author, but I sense he meant that Pierce would go when the season ends. Pure speculation, but anybody who follows football at all knows about the transfer window (specially after the Ronaldo saga). Thus, I think he was really pointing toward December, but only said November.

No objections to this post or anything. I just didn't want it to past unnoticed the fact that Rusty Pierce and Ronaldo here appear in back-to-back sentences. That has to be a unique occurance in the history of the cosmos.

I hear frankie has been on the field for a loss or 2 as well, but that can't be possible or he wouldn't actually be good, i guess....geez, think about how bad eddie pope must suck , with all the DC losses with him on the field

This coming from someone who thinks Frankie is a good player. Just because Bruce A. loves the guy to no end doesn't mean he has a lick of talent. Really, that was a very funny post.

Remember when Ronaldo said he wanted to rehab in MLS? That was cool...

Would love to see him head over there. Don't really think much of his skill level but he is a fighter.

Also, he went to my alma mater UNCG and I would imagine he would be the first Spartan abroad.

Rusty would be going over to act as the water/towel boy so it is allowed by UEFA rules.

he is one of the best pure defenders in MLS. Jason Kreis said he was the best defender in the league in a recent interview. If you think Rusty sucks you can't think much of MLS.

Basically, if Rusty wants to go play in an inferior league for a while and make a nice sum of money let him.

But remember, just because he excels in MLS doesn't mean he'll do the same in another league even if that league is inferior. Just ask Lothar.

Inferior to what? What is your basis of comparison?

Pierce would not be registered until Jan 1st. This doesn't mean he can't train with a club in November or December. He just can't get any game time.

I'm not certain if he could play any "friendly" games. Say Vitoria vs. U.S. Project-40 or Vitoria vs. a XYZ Club from the Portuguese 15th Division in a closed door scrimmage.

Inferior where? Some of the better Portuguese club teams have been coming over to the US for years with their B teams and waxed every team they play. On top of that they come after a long season and play a mid season form US club team.

What does "pure defender" mean. Kind of sounds like he is an incomplete player. Which would make him a bad player.

Rusty Pierce, dependent on whether or not surgery is required for his groin, would be going over to train. This isn't a "loan" in the traditional European or South American sense, and people are misinterpreting the term used to describe the move.

That being said, the Revolution defense has been suspect for any number of reasons in 2002, and it's both unfair and inaccurate to assign specific blame to him.

He's a good defender, and certainly worthy of a look-see at national level; Bruce Arena's already been in contact with him. But is he good enough to be "the future?" Who knows? There are any number of good candidates for right-back, and it's a long time until WC 2006.

    We'll see.

Well said, Evan. Who would've thought guys like Armas, Mastroeni, Mathis, etc. in 1998 would make the team? Lot of time between now and then.

And if it is just a training loan, it's much ado about nothing then.

it depends how good his defense is, and how bad his offensive game is. In the USA team, I would call LLamosa a pure defender. While his(Llamosa) offense isn't as good as Agoos, if Carlos wasn't so old, I think he would have been the regular central man. Nadal from Spain has very little offensively, and I would say Jaap Stam for Holland isn't much of an offensive threat. Many if not most teams will have a defender who doesn't have much offensive game. That said, the Revs don't look for Rusty to play much offense. He is almost always locked onto the other team's best offensive player and is charged with marking him out of the game. Which he basically always does. I am not saying that he is the be all or end all. But the boy can defend like mad.
