http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/world/2008/01/18/rising-anti-americanism-in-russia.html Just kidding. Apparently, Russians are mad on a lot of things now.
Actually, Russians have less problems now than back in 1990s. They are not just mad in Americans, their bombers are flying around Japan and Britain too.
that will all depend on who you ask. There might be less problems in a strictly mathematical sense of that word, but in reality, the problems are the same. It's just the Putin machine has done a very good job at showing people how much progress the country has made in the past 5 years or so, while beneath the surface, nothing has changed. I'm not criticising Russia, I just feel bad for its people.
Russians are sure getting rich with oil prices high. It is hard to say if it is linked with Putin's policy or not. Some Western experts argue the economy is good not because, but despite of Putin. They try to say that if Russia is democratic, it would get much richer. At this point, it is hard to say if that is true. One thing is clear: I used to see beautiful young Russian women running around to look for husbands back in 1990s, not anymore.
I'm not defending Putin, but America has really screwed up relations with Russia by treating it as if it's a dinky little country that we can just ignore. We do stuff like put military bases in Central Asia and incorporate the Baltic States into NATO, not giving a damn that those are areas that were traditionally ruled from Moscow or St. Pete. Now of course those countries are independent now and have every right to ally themselves with the US. But how do you think Russians are going to feel about it? Imagine if something happened to the US that caused it to lose control of Alaska and Puerto Rico, and then the Russians -- or, gasp, the Chinese -- put military bases there. What would we think? Or if Russia convinced Canada or Mexico to let it build a missile shield there? Why should we care what the Russians think? Because they've still got nukes and a big army! And they still don't have a consolidated democracy. All we need is a nationalist type to become president there and start demanding the largely Russian parts of neighboring countries back and then we're back to the Cold War -- perhaps more dangerous this time.
Shrunken Russia Well, if America's objective was the splintering of the USSR, that occurred! http://geography.about.com/od/countryinformation/a/ussr.htm "The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (also known as the USSR or Soviet Union for short) consisted of Russia and surrounding countries that today make up Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan." http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/commonwealth/russia_rel94.jpg
feel bad for the americans not russians. the US taxpayers are paying for israeli weapons and aid to israel.
I was in Russia in 1983 when I was a student, and back then I was really surprised at how much the Russians loved Americans. Because, in Argentina it was a given that eveybody was anti-American. I was meeting young people, and they were very nice, but they seemed to be dissapointed that I was not American.
No, it's clearly an Iran issue like every other thread in Politics & Current Events. I'm sure the tornadoes in Alabama have something to do with Iran too.
Really? They must not be running around because they're busy putting up web sites to look for husbands. Seriously, google "Russians Love Americans" and take your pick.
