If the problem is drunkenness, can fans be half-naked if not drunk?

If that means clamping down on men without a shirt then I'm all in favor of it. I don't need to be surrounded by a bunch of shirtless English dudes when I'm just trying to watch a match in a bar. #shirtup

Probably not the right thread, but screw it:

If @Nico Limmat has any sort of "happy dance", it was in full force today :D

It would be totally futile and pointless to boycott it. We would not be missed and they would probably want Italy anyway.

USA boycotted the Russian Olympics in 1980, they boycotted the LA games in 1984...both were tarnished. Putin deserves more than a slap on the wrist, not saying staying home would accomplish much, but I would support a boycott.

The USA were the biggest Olympic team then and the USSR would have loved to have beaten them in the medals table but were not given the chance and devalued the whole tournament. As I say England not being there would probably actually please them.

fair point Ric...but do you feel that expelling the 23 diplomats is enough punishment?

It is very difficult because we are now a very small country and cannot really wield much weight against a super power. Probably the most important thing is to show some strength but also bring it to the world's attention. I find it very sad that every time a Russian is interviewed they come up with the same old blinkered crap that they are so badly seen unjustly despite the endless list of things the government have been into in the last 4-5 years. He's ex KGB and determined to stay in power so for them everything is game. In reality this is all pretty minor to what potentially the world could be like in 5-10 years I fear.

I really think we had to make sure this tit for tat stuff does effect us more than having not done it. No journalists will then mean problems for fans who will be seen as possible journalists and without journalists we can't report on any possible problems that might occur before their election.

yep and when the Russian hooligans attack...and everyone knows they will...the England supporters (victims) can easily be jailed...it's not exactly rocket science. At some point I fully expect the Russian WC authorities to say that they can no longer guarantee the safety of the English supporters nor team members...then what happens???

the english 'woman' team should be consequent and withdraw from world cup. but they shit their pants now. all other threats are muff boxing. no english journalists at the world cup sounds like a blessing for everyone else involved.

With the diplomatic situation getting worse by the day, it will be interesting to see if it affects the World Cup, both in terms of a potential boycott by England and/or the effect it will have on fans.
