Brad just tweeted that last night was his last for Carolina, he's headed to Denmark on a 3 year deal. We'll definitely miss him in the back.

We almost lost him last summer but the deal fell through. Glad to see him get the chance. Godspeed Brad.

Drats! Good for him, but bad for us. :( Any idea on what kind of deal he's getting?

Sounds like he's headed to HB Køge. This is the same team he was supposed to go to last year but the deal fell through. This time though is much better as they are just being promoted into the Danish Superliga.

He'll be squaring off against the likes of FC Copenhagen and Brøndby. Here's the team's official website. They do have a rudimentary section in English.

Google Chrome and maybe some other browsers can translate :)

    Thanks for the link though.

    From Soccer by Ives Tweet:

"Word I'm getting is Carolina scored a $20K transfer fee and 20 percent of future transfer clause for Brad Rusin. Nice bit of business there"

If true, this certainly softens the blow of Brad leaving.

We might catch a few more transfer fees if people are willing to pay. Good luck to Brad and lets hope his future moves make him and the Railhawks happy.

Wow, honestly I am surprised that the transfer fee is only $20k. I guess in this case though it's the 20% of future fees that could really pay off.

Twenty grand for half a season, in a league where most of our players probably aren't making forty per season, is likely enough to find a replacement of nearly the same caliber.

Well the player gets a cut of most fees, but that's definitely fair value for the RailHawks.

True. But the RailHawks also get a lot of it. Plus, half his salary for the season got freed up (well, half if none of it was given as a signing bonus); between that and the transfer fee (whatever it is - 20K and 20% is a credible rumor, but we don't and won't have an official number), I'm sure they can afford to bring in another solid defender to fill that spot.

That's why I'm not worried. But I will miss having Rusin in back, and I wish him all the best at Køge.

It will be tough to replace him on short notice. He was a rock for us. What an awesome player! I won't be surprised if he goes to a much bigger club in the future. All the best Brad. We will miss you.

Railhawks fans, can I get a scouting report? The Danish club seem delighted with him, calling him a "continental" player who is big in size but good on the ball too.

Great no-nonsense CB and a leader. Great header of the ball. Tons of speed for a big guy. I won't be surprised to see him play for the USMNT one day. He is only 24. Considering the clowns we have been putting out there...Ream, Goodson etc, I think he has a shot.

I hope you're right. Our system for identifying quality players in this country is awful.

BTW, here's a link re: the Dane's expectations of Rusin:

I'm a big fan of the big guy, but I wouldn't go that far. You never know, but while he's at times dominant at the NASL level, I haven't seen anything that tells me he's ready for international play. I think he would have trouble with the speed of play (not the speed of players, but how quickly one must read the game and react).

wow, he just drove straight at them, and got through, some nice control for a cb, though some poor defending. Nice finish, and this guy never even mentioned in MLS? Wow

Meanwhile Tim Ream is our USMNT "future". Happy for Rusin. You know at some level I was a bit turned off by the stadia and atmosphere. I think Brad played in a much better tsadium and in front of a more passionate crowd the last two seasons. I know I am biased tho!

I'd add that Rusin's skill set, size, talent, and personality seem to fit better for defensive mid. He likes to go forward a bit too much to be a true center back. I was really impressed with him a couple of seasons ago when he played defensive mid almost exclusively for the Hawks. He played center back very well in the last season and a half, but I thought it was a little bit a waste of his attacking talent.
