It is disgusting SRM. And the Turks want us banned from the competition ! These Turks are a dirty, foul lot. It is about time something was done about them. English fans will die if they choose to go out to Instanbul later this year. That is a fact. I fear for the players safety too. The sad thing is, it will take a major tragedy to make the athorites act, when we all can see it coming anyway.

Lets just hope someone has the decency to break Tugays legs in the near future. One of those over the ball two footed Steven Gerrard lunges would do nicely.

I really doubt Tugay would say such a thing. But I must admit that a few of out players really have a temper problem (Alpay and Bülent) and it would be better for our team if they retired.
About the return leg. Im sure nothing is going to happen to the english fans if they come to Istanbul. This time the police will be prepared and they will prevent anything bad from happening, but the racist chants from the english crowd and the booing of our national anthem didn't exactly make things better.

We boo everyones National Anthem. if we played the Yanks tomorrow we would boo theirs. It's no big deal, just a bit of fun. You take that kind of thing too seriously. If I saw someone burning the Union Jack I would laugh and think what a prick. I wouldnt be offended to the point where I felt the need to go and kill someone. Get over yourselves.

the so-called booing of the turk anthem has been over-stated.
The words of the anthem could clearly be heard from the singer. It wasnt as serious as people are claiming..

There is no evidence of that and you don't know what the english players said to him.
Besides I thought this was his last game for the turkish NT. He talked about retiring.

I bet good money that there will be trouble at the game even if england fans are banned from attending..
    Im expecting the usual stuff..

    -lynch mob at the airport
-Attempts to disrupt the team sleep
-intimidation in and outside the stadium
    etc.....

sinner_ronald_monk, lately fangroups from Turkeys two biggest clubs Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have been giving flowers to the oppsition instead of the usual welcome to hell signs.
People are aware of the fact that it has to change and things are changing.

There was only friendship between Galatasaray and Liverpool when the two teams met last year in the Champions league.
That friendship could and should have continued two days ago, but unfortunatly it didn't.
Let us hope things will change till October.

Btw I liked the way Rüstü and Hakan Sükür thanked the english players for the match after the final whistle. They showed real sportsmanship.
Some of the other players could learn a lot from them.

************ me! what really get's me is this quote:

"You come down the tunnel and all you can see is red smoke everywhere and there are guns going off in the crowd.

"People take guns into the crowd and shoot them up into the air. It's really intimidating and when the other team comes out on the pitch the noise is deafening."

How people can be allowed to take firearms in the stadium is beyond me. What happens when the game reaches an important stage and say we get a penalty in th 90th minute? With so much emotion going around wouldn't someone be tempted to take a shot at the penalty taker?

Invading the pitch to celebrate YOUR team's goal with YOUR team is one thing. But taking firearms letting them off and throwing items onto the pitch at opposing players is just no on.

I doubt they actually have real guns inside the stadium. If they did something would have happened long time ago.

I just read that the return leg will not be played at Ali sami yen, but at Fenerbahces stadium instead.

What do you think about that? At least there will be no "welcome to hell banners" :)

Sinner, Booing any nations anthem at a sporting event is a disgrace and a disrespect usually conducted by pathetic people.

I'm pretty sure Tugay said he will retire after the Turkey-England game in Istanbul.

It's football - when did respect come into it? Anthems get booed. People expect it and hardly anybody gets that bothered by it. Only those who treat patriotism as some sort of devine duty, normally.

Someone complained (I think on this thread) about fans singing "stand up if you hate the turks" and took at as evidence of racial hatred. "stand up if you hate (insert oppostion here)" is a bog-standard song that's sung every week. It's nothing special. It's slipped out of fashion somewhat, but singing "who the F***ing hell are you?" when the opposition came out of the tunnel used to be quite normal. I'd imagine these days that's be seen as another sign of English arrogance for refusing to accept an emerging footballing nation.

Richard, expect or not, there are some things that should be sacred. It is that kind of behavior, the booing of anthems and such that helps contribute to the hostilities.
