What's the cheapest/quickest way to get there and back? If this game gets scheduled, is there anyone with travel experience/connections that could get us a bulk deal? These seem to be the non-stop links from the US and Manchester: JFK (New York) British Airways EWR (Newark) Continental PHL (Philly) US Airways ATL (Altanta) Delta ORD (Chicago) American Airlines ORD (Chicago) British Midlands I would think most folks (at least us east coasters) can get to these hubs pretty easily. Anyone know how to negotiate a group rate?
Andy, I organized a group of about 20-25 to Columbus for the USA Mex match for WCQ through Continental. They were great to deal with and gave a terrific price. If you want more details PM me and I can get you whatever info you need. This does sound really good if it happens. Josh.
The scuttlebutt in New England over the weekend is that France and England had an agreement to play on the 12th, which, after checking through www.uefa.com, does seem to be a European international day. Apparently the French have backed out, and the USSF is offering to send in the Yanks. The "link" is word of mouth.
Word of a different mouth indicated the possibility that we will play at least one game next year in "retro" jerseys. But you didn't get that from me.
I realize this is idle speculation at this point, but I would love to see this rumor come to fruition myself. There's a full slate of EPL action on the weekend before this date, and the following weekend is an FA Cup weekend, so this could be a great opportunity to travel for 5 or 6 days and see the US play as well as taking in some high-level English club matches. Plus, you're likely to get much better rates on air fare to England in February than at other times. And while the weather probably won't be great, it'll be warmer there than here in the upper midwest.
One of the SE members is a travel agent (just found out when trying to get folks to London for Tottenham game) so he might be able to help with a consolidator. As always someone needs to speak to USSF to make sure they get a large block of tix. K
ah i'll ask it, why not. How many people do you think we'd get over there? I'm guessin upwards in the amount of 1,000. Am I nutz? This probly ain't even gonna happen but it would be great if it did.
There were probably 200+ folks in the US section of Landsdowne Road in Dublin for the Ireland game. That was a Wednesday, too. I would expect there to be quite a bit of domestic UK based demand for tickets a US game in England.
As someone who's flown PIA (from Toronto to Karachi, with stops at JFK, Shannon, Ireland, and Islamabad) the curry's not bad for airline food.
Sadly, England has decided to play the Aussies. http://www.thefa.com/application?or...ontentId=30394&contentType=1&subContentType=1
