Saw this rumor come up during a Dutch football program Voetbal Insite (great program) where one of the commentators - and owner of Holland's biggest football magazine - said that Davids and van Bommel got into a fight somewhere around the Austria match.

It was said that Davids didn't like his position in the Dutch squad (on the left side) and keeps going to the centre during the match because of this, van Bommel had something to say about this, Davids did not like it, some sort of scuffle happened?

Van Hanegem called during the show to say that this rumor was not true, while the commentator was adament it happened, and believed his source who gave him this info.

Would explain why van Bommel was so off during the Argentina match.

Anyway, the point of this thread is to say that Voetbal Insite is a great show. :D

I like van Bommel, great player, and seems like a good guy.

Davids - great player, but more likely to not be a good guy.

I bet the story is true, and I wish we got that show.

    True or Not

I hope it doesn't get characterized as some racial bs as opposed to a disagreement over positioning.

I love Edgar but if true, he needs to stick to his position even if he disagrees with it. Van Bommel is a nice player but has struck me as a bit arrogant in interviews I've seen and read. Then again, he's Dutch so a little bit of arrogance is part of the package. ;-)

Maybe Davids mistook van Bommel for his ex-girlfriend or something?

    get it? get it? :D

It seems the black players are siding with Davids, and the rest with v Bommel (or something aking to that, don't remember all too well...it's a rumor anyway, so I don't need to be precise) but that's probably because they were all former teammates at Ajax..and not really a question of skin color.

    Meh.

I know I'll be watching next monday at any rate.

one thing is from all the interviews with edgar and comments about him i have never heard any negatives except the steroid issue. so i dont know about him being "not a good guy" but i could be wrong.
2nd: isn't it a very common thing for ppl in the dutch squad to just randomly interchange positions during a match? i know i see seedorf and edgar all over the field in all their matches, club or national.
thirdly: about the black players siding with edgar cuz of the ajax thing...didnt f de boer play at ajax too?

¿You didn't hear about him hitting his girlfriend?

Not sure about this one, but the black former Ajax players all seem around the same age, and probably were together during their youth years at Ajax as well. If that isn't extra bonding time, I don't know what is. :D

Plus this is all just a rumor, might be the biggest pile of doo doo of the century for all I know.

I come from Madrid, my family has supported Madrid for what seems for ever, and I only own 1 passport: the Spanish one. I'm no more Dutch than Maxima is, the only difference is that I don't parasite of the Dutch's tax money like she does. :D

The only way I can been seen 'supporting' Dutch football, is by going to a ADO Den Haag match from time to time.

Back to the topic: here's an article in Dutch from that commentator about this subject.... LINK

He says the same thing, but at least I can be more precise about what he said exactly, instead of going by memory:

.the alleged bust-up happened in the dressing room after the Austria game
.the rest of the internationals didn't get mixed in, apart from Cocu
.there's only the danger of group-forming in the squad; with the black and the white players

OK,I was just wondering. You know I hate it when people who are born here support another country, but that´s not the case for you.

I see you love Dutch football a lot.The NT is fun to follow, always something going on.

It´s FC and not ADO me thinks.

It should be FC, ADO still gives me the feeling we're talking about the youth teams that were housed next to them.

    'Alles door Oefening'

    dunno

Messing with names, traditions is crap.Like they did with the Oranje shirt,it should be one colour and what are those flags doing there,a flag of the other country.I don´t get it.Nike should be banned from football and the KNVB should not allow this.I hate Kessler.

I don't want to be the one to judge van Bommel but doesn't Davids reputation and experience speak for itself. I would be angry too if a player, who compared to me has only experienced a glimpse of professional soccer, would critisize me. And knowing van Bommel he probably didn't remind Davids a a tactful way.

Well I don't know him. I have had a chat with Arnold Bruggink, and van Nistelrooy called me up before his move to Man U to get my permission, but MvB hasn't spoken to me yet.

I'm sorry, I'm in an obnoxious mood.

No, just a lot of big soccer geeks are getting on my nerves. The Yanks abroad thread is filled with them right now.

I'm thinking of creating a sock puppet for the first time.

While it's true that Davids has had more international experience than van Bommel, that doesn't mean he should do whatever he wants to do on the field.

If the trainer(s) put him on the left side of the field, he should stick to his position instead of getting in the way of the player that is supposed to be playing there.

    It just won't go away

In another interview with van Bommel, it didn't look like he was happy at all with how the situation was handled with. Davids, after the Manchester game, said he didn't understand all the commotion.

    I guess it's not just a rumor anymore :D

I don't know what to think of this. Everything was fine till the press started to blow it up. If van Bommel just would have said, "there's no problem it's all been dealt with", the whole thing would have blown over. But now they blame Davids for Zendens and van Bommels poor play. Looks to me like van Bommel was deliberately tried stirring ************ up.

Q: So is the Problem solved?
A: Uuuuuuuuuhhhhh(long pauze) normally speaking, it should be.

ps. I've nothing against van Bommel
