Mods are gonna keep the rumors on just one thread.

Sorry, couldn't help it. Give me a yellow card, it's more than I deserve. ;-)

you don't want a yellow card, a yellow card means you are allowed to starter any threads

red card you don't get to post

BS could not exist without rumours. If we banned them from most threads, that would only leave lies and innuendo.

Oh Lord I hope the season is upon us soon...too many of us with too little soccer to discuss, as shown by this thread (and this response).

Is a rumour kind of like a rumor? Or something better...?

A rumour is a rumor with an English accent.

Let me offer my 2 cents on this rumor (or rumour or roomwar or airmoire or whatever)...

    1. I find it impossible to believe that all rumors will be kept to just one thread. For instance, we'll need to have at least 2 separate threads for the various Etcheverry bashing/Keister kissing groups. One thread to be titled: Etcheverry gone--good riddance! and the other to be titled: Etcheverry gone--the appocolypse is here!

    2. I heard a rumor that Sormun is starting a petition to begin a PR campaign to generate public support to start a non-profit fund to solicite donations to hire a lawyer to file a brief to require that USSF pay for an immediate bone scan for Freddy Adu. Obviously this would deserve it's own thread.

    3. But then with Hudson gone, we won't have as many rumors about Gascoigne and Dalglish and various unnamed foreign trialists appearing, possibly appearing, discussing, negotiating, meeting with representatives, practicing, flying to or from, talking to agents who are talking to Dave Kasper or commenting on possible work with DC United.

    4. But then with Hudson gone, despite all of our draft choices traded, we'll need more threads for rumors about various youth players, potential superdraftees and developmental players being considered by the staff.

    5. Then there are the salary cap threads. Is it or is it not true that Chino Alegria will receive an extra $500 dollars in his contract this off-season if he does not go to Peru to visit his family? Will developmental players be allowed to keep the soap from the hotel on road exhibitions? Did the individual player per diem for road meals go up an extra dollar this year? Inquiring minds want to know.

    6. Then there is of course the inevitable "Santino Quaranta--Rebel Without a Clue" thread. Let's see--last season we had him alternately in rehab or multiple recreational drug usage. I think this off-season the rumors will probably deal with Santino, alien visitations, tumors and the anti-christ.

How can all of this fit within just one thread?

it's not within one thread, thats just something we tell the masses, didn't you get the Gold Board memo? uh, wait a minute, forget it. Nothing to see here, move along.

If a thread is started with a rumour, as opposed to a rumor, does the english accent apply to each reply posted thereunto, or does each post get a distinctive accent based upon spelling? If so, how do you determine dialectic differences within each spelling difference. For example the word "water" in Philadelphia is clearly pronounced "wudder" whereas in Beantown this same word is pronounced "wahtah" yet both instances are spelled "water". How should I differenciate? I assume there are intricate differences applicable to the english accent across the pond.

Actually, in Beantown, I thought water was spelled "lite beer".

    the English again... those bastards!!!!

I humbly suggest that once again, in the case of rumour vs rumor, that we see yet another situation where the English are desperately trying to differentiate themselves from America, and take to imitating the French's own "rumeur", but as in nearly every case, simply got the spelling wrong.

Further examples? favour, parlour, candour, .....

silly English- ze French laugh in your gzenerahl direction..

Well, it depends on whether you're talking about the stuff that comes out of taps (and, clearly, taps should be restricted to use in beer0drinking activities) or the stuff that Boston Harbor is made out of. The latter, I believe, is spelled "polychlorinated biphenyl."

I heard a rumor that the mods were going to start threads of high intellectual interest that are ripe for passionate discussions.
