I listen to Guatemala Radio and on a show that the host is the son of the Owner of Municipal stated that the Coach from San Jose also asked for a tape of Freddy Thompson for possible consideration. I cannot find a link to share but I am talking about Gerardo Villa JR who was on Goltv and he interviewed Alexi Lalas last night. Lalas also stated that the MLS is intrested in bringing Freddy THompson and he would not mind having him on the Galaxy but they are working on their cap. Gerardo Villa stated that he might be going to San Jose, Chivas USA, Galaxy or strongly rumored in Columbus since Sigi Schmidt had wanted him 2 years ago.

Does anyone have knowledge of San Jose requesting for a tape of him?

Freddy Thompson is also a defensive midfielder, so that would mean no Pablo move to San Jose.

If anyone has a tape of the US-Guatemala friendly in March 2007 you could see him playing there.

That was a 0-0 draw with a packed Guatemala defense and Ruiz flopping.

    Important move if it happens.

I think that we are going to be linked to every rumor of any foreign player coming to MLS.

It would not have been our coach that would have asked for a tape, but rather JD. Frank and Ian went to Argentina and Uruguay. JD went to Central America. On the other hand, JD is our "General Manager" so it is possible that the news source heard "manager" and thought "coach."

We do need a top flight d-mid. So if this Freddy guy is good, I hope we get him. We also need a top flight striker and a veteran right side middie. I suppose we could play Pozniak at right mid while Salinas gets ready. I don't see Salinas being able to start every game, but he might.

Ah! I see on Freddy's website that he plays: volante de contención or volante por derecha. I take that to mean contentious midfielder or d-mid and right side middie. (Did I get that right?) So he could be an excellent choice. If Vide is good enough to play d-mid for us, we could play:

    - - - TBA - - - - - Glinton/Kamara
    Guererro - Grabavoy - Thompson
    - - - - - - - - Vide
    Hernandez - Ryan - Garcia - Riley
    - - - - - - - - TheJoe!

But hey! This could all be wild rumor and posturing on Thompson's part. It's hard to credit these things.

    GOOOOO QUAAAAAAKES!!!!!!! :D

The fact that he's only 26 is certainly a plus, especially considering a lot of the other rumors of foreign players in their 30's coming here. :)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I would switch Hernandez to right as that is where he has been playing. Also, I welcome LA's Clestine Babayaro (Left defender) to MLS: "Mr. Babayaro welcome MLS and meet Mr. Salinas (right side midfielder). I understand you are pretty fast..well eh meet some American fast --Mr Salinas." go quakes!!!

OK Quakes here is the Scoop:

Gerardo Villa JR the radio Host ex Goltv that I mentioned is the son of Gerardo Villa the owner of Municipal (a gay team from Guatemala). In his radio show today he stated that he know that there is an offer already in Guatemala at Municipal from the MLS. He keeps on saying that he is going to San Jose Earthquakes....

The guy was very good for my Tema in Guatemala Comunicaciones he got injured and he had an operation done on his knee after the injury he did a Judas move and went to our arch rival Municipal after the betrayal he went for a tryout last season to Chivas USA but his injury kept him from catching on and along with the injury Preki did not like him.

Anyways soccer related he has similar characteristics as Ivan Guerrero but with a little better passing touch and a good shot from 20 yards or so....when he played for Comunicaciones he played Hard and he was a warrior. Now im not sure because it hurts my eyes looking at him on his current team.

Also he was the Captain when Carlos Ruiz was out from The Guatemala National Team.

great information. We like players with high work-rates and that can play multiple positions. What were his primary positions for Comunicaciones and the national team? d-min and right mid seem to be the likely ones.

How would you rate his speed?

He has decent speed not mind blowing but he can keep up.
He can play all over the midfield but in the middle he would be solid. He goes up and down, he defends well and he attaks well. He has good vision and he can filter the ball like an ofensive mid going forward out of the back. When healthy he is a warrior and has a kamakase (dont know if its spelled right) type of attitude on the field. He eats up alot of ground guys....we will see I do have to share with you that this Gerardo Villa Jr has been right on alot of rumors and it appears that since his Dad is the president of Freddys current team he might have an inside news because he did mention that the coach liked him and he named him by name Frankie Yallop. I will keep you updated.

Cool fact: His favorite Guatemala Player was Jorge Rodas the first Guatemalan to come to MLS for your San Jose Clash.

Here is mroe info on him from the Crew site:

And there is the firs website that I can give you that it is true what I have been hearing on Guatemala Radio.

    Fredy Thompson to MLS?

Municipal and Guatemala captain Fred Thompson is being shopped around to several MLS clubs according to several rumors. San Jose and Real Salt Lake are the clubs interested it seems, and he would make a solid addition to MLS. As to what kind of money he expects, we'll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, enjoy his website, I know I did.

Thompson on the other hand, appears to be headed to San Jose with contract in hand after it is known that he will not be going to Chivas or Crew. Frank Yallop knows Willie Sims another Guatemalan and Thompson he knows speacially THonpson/.

Thompson sounds cool! He's the sometime captain of the Guatemala Nats? He must be pretty decent. He's a d-mid, which we need.

Excellent! But I still want a big time striker!! We are not going to be ripping the net with Glinton and Kamara.

I saw Sims play with the Islanders last season and I was not impressed. Of course, their whole team looked like crap in that match, and I only saw him once, but I was completely underwhelmed.

We need a Big Time Forward!!

    GOOOOOOO QUAAAAAAKES!!!!! :D

If the speculation is right that Guille Franco will leave Villarreal at the end of the Spanish season, that's who I want and he'd be worth waiting for.
