MLS gave Carlos Ruiz a two match ban on the vicious elbow he gave to Carey Talley against the Wizards at the HDC. Well that will help us out for Saturday. The suspension starts for Ruiz.
According to the LA Times, Ruiz is claiming he would not have been able to play vs the Metros anyway because of National Team obligations the following day (yeah, right). If true, he's actually being suspended only one match: "Ruiz's two-game suspension begins with Saturday's match at New York/New Jersey, but Ruiz was not planning to play against the MetroStars anyway. He is playing with his native Guatemala national team in an exhibition at the Home Depot Center Sunday against Honduras. Ruiz said Wednesday night, before the suspension was handed down, that he was not skipping the trip in anticipation of a suspension. "No, it has nothing to do with that," he said. "Just flying back and forth and playing both Saturday and Sunday would be too much and leave me too tired." http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-ruiz20jun20,1,7951530.story?coll=la-headlines-sports (I believe you may have to register)
This completely contradicts everything that Ty and Rob were saying about Ruiz's reaction to getting suspended (once again) and wanting out of the league because he thinks he's getting screwed. Not that he'd be missed or anything...
