I am sure this is just a load of crap, but Stone just said on ESPN2 that the team has not spoken to Ruiz and have been trying to contact him after the suspension. He then went on to say thay Ruiz is seriously considering not returning to MLS because he doesn't feel he is treated fairly. I am pretty sure this isn't going to happen, but anyone else heard anything about this?????
Ruiz would be stupid not to come back, MLS has been nothing short of a great career move for him. If he leaves the league then that would set a bad record for his career and other teams will have to take his crying into consideration. I think its just frustration and he'll get over it like regular men do.
Surely he'll come back. HE is a great talent and the MLS is a stepping stone to possibly bigger things. He'll be understandably annoyed and frustrated, but LA have stood by him and that should be helpful to enticing him back.
1) The suspension was a load of BS. 2) He is with the Guatamalian team right now. 3) He'll be back with the G's July 4th. 4) Rob and Ty are idiots and starting BS rumors.
Much as I like Fish on our team, if he has this attitude, I'd say it suck it up and don't forget your humble beginnings. Don't become a prima donna.
Well, to give you some background, he has earned a reputation as a diver, a very physical player, as well as a very talented goal scorer. A few weeks ago in a game against the Kansas City Wizards, he was given a red card for "punching" a player who was stepping on his hand. So last week, in a hotly contested rematch with the Wizards, while going up for a header, he elbowed a KC defender in the face. The ref called nothing, despite the fact that he broke the orbital bone on the defender's face. The League reviewed the tape, and suspended him two games. Some of the controversy around this is how the League is revising some of the on-field refereeing mistakes. For example, the player that Ruiz "punched" in the first game was subsequently given a fine for his acting job, yet the red card for Ruiz stood. The other controversy is how much injury reports are influencing these reviews. They seem to be associating the level of intent or recklessness with the severity of the injury.
HE has a choice. He can distain his paycheck and go play elsewhere, or suck it up like a man and come back and pove his point on the field. I'm sure the money will win. He's many things, but an idiot does not seem to be among them.
Not coming back to MLS would be a very stupid move on his part. Ruiz would be forgetting this critical fact: just few years ago his mother was preparing beans and tortillas in an open fire... From nothing to stardom thanks to MLS. Don't blow it, little fish...
We have yet to hear this from any source other than Rob Stone. This is a big enough story that G. Jones or Paul Guttierez would be all over it if there were a shred of truth in it. Secondly, there is that little thing called a contract. Absent MLS consent to a transfer, Ruiz cannot play professionally for another club until he is out of contract. So - calm down (or stop gloating) until there is something solid to go on.
Speaking only of the current issue, how is receiving a suspension for swinging an elbow and breaking someone's orbital bone unfair? Plus, I understand the concept of team unity, but Victorine's comments about Ruiz's current situation and the team's support for him are ridiculous.
Maybe this misconstrues your question, but it could be argued that it is an unfair punishment in the context of how players who foul Carlos are treated. After all, the punishment is not dependent on the injury, but the illegal act. Carlos (and the league) are just lucky that he has not been injured by some of the fouls that have been committed against him. In that sense, Carlos sees himself as being treated differently by the league than it treats other offenders who commit serious fouls. By the way, I am not saying that is a right or a wrong perception. I am just saying that it is a legitimate point of view that can be argued.
he wont Leave... The Galaxy and Uncle phil will buy his mom a new Hummer H2. and a new condo in Guatemala or something. just make him happy.
But we do it out of sheer pleasure... She had to do it every day out of sheer poverty... There is --believe me-- a biiiiig difference... Won't you agree?
Did Garcia complain when he was fined for embelishing? Did Kovelenko complain for his suspension and fine? Did Wolyneic? Did Stoichkov? NO, none of them did because they are professionals. Even though these players lose their cool on the field (as many players in all sports do), the still exhibit class off the field. I would expect Carlos Ruiz to do the same, but he has failed. Theres something to be said for a player that will take a punishment, whether he deems it fair or not, with a grain of salt and move on. Theres also something to be said for cry babies that threaten to leave because of "unfair" punishment. (If indeed he is considering, since this is all speculation)
