My brother just called me and told me Rui Costa is gonna come back to benfica's midfield, along with 2 other class players, can anyone verify that? he said Viera is coming with lots of money too!
don't count on it!! Barca had some intrest he'll go there if he has the chance!! Then maybe go to Benfica when he's finished.
then forget it, just like Paulo Sousa Benfica his not going to pay anything for a over the hill players Sergio Conceicao took a pay cut to play for Porto, that's the kind of spirit we got get from players the want to return to the old clubs.
In August, Rui Costa said he would like to finish his career at Benfica, but that he also didn't want to put Benfica in a spot where they would have to pay alot of money and he didn't want to come and be a finacial strain for them. Rui Costa is a huge Benfiquista, so I'm sure he'd take a pay cut to play for them. Only problem is how much it would cost to get Rui Costa from Milan, not sure if Benfica would be able to pay a high price for him.
But there's a difference from Conceicao and Rui Costa!! He is still in demand from other teams... Conceicao just reached a very low point in his career and he wasn't even making the Lazio team. So he had to take a pay cut or no one would take him...
we don't want him, when his all wash out, he will get boo if his not 100 percent, its not the way to go
Rui Costa with the Benfica jersey check www.record.pt Jose Veiga say Rui and 5 other top players for next season
Sure, why not? If this is true than I figure this will be our lineup next year: GK: Moreira D: Miguel, Helguera, Rio Ferdinand, Neville M: Figo, Rui Costa, Seedorf F: Simao, Pauleta, Nuno Gomes Come, on! Talk is cheap. These players aren't! Let's get serious, start shoring up some of our problems and worry about getting one "top player" before we claim that we are getting 6! I appreciate the enthusiasm, but prove it is more than just talk!
Rui confirms Benfica desire Tuesday 9 March, 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Milan ace Manuel Rui Costa has admitted that he intends to hang up his boots with former club Benfica. "I want to end my career with the club where it all started," the midfielder told a Portuguese TV station. "That is with Benfica. "I have great respect for clubs such as Porto and Sporting Lisbon but I’m only prepared to join my old side." The playmaker has been linked with a move away from the San Siro after being eclipsed by Kaka this term. Even if Milan did release a statement recently denying that they intended to sell the former Fiorentina player. "Rui Costa is staying here," stated Rossoneri sporting director Ariedo Braida. "We’ll only consider his sale if the player asks us for a transfer." However, there does now seem to be the very realistic option that Rui Costa will not see out his contract with Milan that runs until 2006. Reports suggest that the midfielder is likely to remain for one more season at the San Siro before heading home. Rui Costa caught the eye of many of Europe’s top clubs after spending three years with Benfica in the early 90s. A move to Fiorentina followed before he was sold for financial reasons to Milan in the summer of 2001.

Milan star Manuel Rui Costa says he won’t make a decision on his future until after the 2004 European Championships. The Portuguese ace has been linked with a return to former club Benfica but he insists nothing has been decided for the time being. "I’ve never hidden the fact that it would be a dream for me to end my career where it all started," said the midfielder. "At this moment in time there has been no official contact but it won’t be just down to me anyway. "There are other factors to consider too. But Euro 2004 is on the horizon and only after that competition will I decide what to do." The playmaker has been linked with a move away from the San Siro after being eclipsed by Kaka this term. Rui Costa will not attend the Inter vs Benfica game, his pulling for Benfica but with respect to a team from the Serie A his not going to attend the game, he also says, Benfica is not inferior to Inter the Milan, if they play like they did in Lisbon they going to get a good result «Benfica não é inferior ao Inter de Milão» (Rui Costa) ASF O Benfica joga na próxima semana a segunda mão da Taça UEFA, frente ao Inter de Milão, em San Siro. 18/03/2004 09:18
