While listening to the game yesterday I heard that Rui Costa is supposed to join the front office starting next season. Does anyone have anymore information about this?

It's true. Rui Costa supposedly is in line to be Benfica's GM next season. The way he is playing right now though, I think I'd rather have him back as a player for another season, and then take on the GM duties when he retires.

Nah, but he could probably get him assassinated if he really wanted too.

I think Rui Costa being Benfica's GM would be very beneficial. That's what I call a real player. Even after retirement, he still sticks around with the team and thats what players lack nowadays. Most of them go to th team that offers them the most money.Rui is like Eusebio. Eusbio is still here with Benfica even to this day because he loves Benfica. He played for Benfica because of the jersey and what it stood for and not for the money. I respect both Rui Costa and Eusebio for that reason. They're both devoted Benfiquistas.

I love Rui Costa...BUT...devoted!!????? 4.5 years at Benfica and 12 years in Italy...thats NOT devotion....Eusebio spent 15 years at Benfica, now that I agree is devotion.

To further his career Rui had to leave and I don't think Benfica in those times could say no to his transfer fee. The man CRIED when he scored against Benfica what more do you want from him.

yes, precisely! If thats not a true Benfiquista/player then they dont exist.

Yes he is devoted. He decided to came to Benfica without even knowing what kind of money he would make there. He didnt care because he wanted to return to his original team. He told Benfica to choose what his salary would be. He could of stayed at Milan and made much much more money there but he didnt. And santos makes a good point.

Not really, he could have gone to Barcelona.
But Fiorentina paid more for him, so he did what was best for the club, at the time and made history along Roberto Baggio.

    That's right.
ps: by the way, read again and again. I think you just got owned there. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13864444&postcount=26

I understand for him to further his career he had to leave but then again why didn't Eusebio leave to further his career? or was the team one of the elites in the world at that time that it wouldn't benefit Eusebio to leave.

Like I said I love Rui and this team wouldn't be in 2nd place this season without him but i'm not comfortable in putting him in the same sentence as Eusebio when it comes to discussing "truely devoted Benfiquistas".

Now, obviously if the team sold him then there wasn't much he could control there.

Eusébio didn't leave at one point to Inter because the state considered him a national treasure and simply didn’t let him go.
There was a dictatorship in place, remember?

That's nonsense. With a contract, nobody leaves against their will.
Infact, they have to agree to it.

I have a great deal of respect for Rui Costa but right now, Benfica are in need of an experienced and successful manager to right this ship. Bringing in and inexperienced manager right may be very risky.
